"Hmm?"

Rolland felt something pressing against his side through the blur that was his sleepy mind. For some reason, his eyes just wouldn't open, though. When he tried to swat the feeling away, it returned on the other side of his body, then slowly moved beneath his pajama shirt and upward. As he was trying to focus on pulling his thoughts together enough to try to push it away again, he felt a sharp spike of pain at his shoulder.

Ow!

He finally managed to get his mind together after another minute and opened his eyes. He honestly wished he hadn't. Glowing, dark red eyes glared over at him from where their owner was biting into his skin. Fear radiated through his stomach, freezing him in place like an animal trying to hide from a predator that was too quick for escape. But he was already caught. Rolland couldn't manage to lift his arms enough to try to push him away so he let his eyes wander to his right. Sure enough, there was another set of equally terrifying eyes looking him over. Thankfully their owner wasn't biting, though, just holding him still. Rolland opened his mouth to try to beg his way out of the disturbing situation, but when he tried to move his mouth and form the words, he could barely open it and didn't sense the vibration in his chest that normally occurred when he was talking. Why can't I talk? No matter how much he tried, he couldn't get his lips to move!

The eyes to his right suddenly began to get closer until he felt a nose against his neck, then a wet tongue lapped along the warm skin there.

Don't! Why can't I move? What's happening?

His teeth clenched as he shut his eyes in panic, trying to will himself to move. He couldn't just lie there while two things bit at him!

It took nearly a minute before he could feel control slowly returning, allowing him to shake his head back and forth. That thankfully got both of the things to release him, only to have a strong hand grab his chin, holding it still as he felt a kiss press against each of his cheeks. Then he woke up, screaming his head off.

Rolland's new mom was in the room in seconds, wrapping him in a strong hug as his new dad rubbed his back. He didn't hesitate to bury his face into her clothes as he tried to calm himself down. He felt his hair being gently brushed aside from his neck, almost as if his father was checking for something. He leaned back a minute later and wiped tears away with the sleeve of his pajamas.

When he lowered his arm, his mom began to sign. "What happened?"

Rolland quickly got his shaky hands up to reply. "Nightmare."

She glanced over his head at her husband, then returned her gaze to me. "What about?" she questioned. Rolland was about to sign a response when something in the doorway caught his attention. Two sets of eyes were staring at him, well, them. Both seemed relaxed. One boy was leaning against the doorjamb while the other stood nonchalantly with strong arms crossed over his chest. His new mom noticed him staring over her shoulder and turned. A scowl formed on her face as she began talking to them.

"Did you two do something to him, boys?"

They both looked slightly surprised, but there was something else mixed in. Sarcasm, maybe? Rolland wasn't that great at telling when someone was using that specific emotion because a lot of it was from tone of voice from what he'd been told.

"What are you talking about? We just got home a few hours ago. We even had dinner downstairs before going to sleep."

Rolland could see her trying to figure them out, but after a moment, her attention returned to him, although his eyes stayed on the door for a second more. Just long enough to see the twin against the doorjamb run his tongue along a disturbingly sharp, white tooth.
