Chapter 9

Zayn sighed heavily as he watched her go. He looked back at Harry. "What if she's right?" He couldn't help but ask. "You...you should get back to her or she's going to come looking for you," he teased.

Kaia walked over to the hot water carafes and started to make herself some tea. But was finding it difficult as her hands were shaking and she still couldn't get Marian's words out of her head.

"Let me help you with that," Louis said gently. "Breathe Kaia, we all know Marian is stubborn but she has a big heart and I believe the two of you will be friends once again. If you give her the time and space she needs," he told her as he made her some tea.

"You right Zayn, I would not put it past her to get out of bed and hunt me down. Marian has honestly never been like this before. So bold and determined, persistent in her pursuits," Harry told him.  "Hold down the fort and I will be back with news later."

Kaia let out the breath she'd been seemingly holding in as she felt Louis' hands cover hers and he took the cup from her. "I just don't know this time," she said and looked at him. "I've never seen hatred like that in my life."

Zayn couldn't help but smirk. "I'm going to chalk it up to hormones," he said. "We'll be here. We'll all be here," he said glancing at Kaia. He pulled out his phone and texted his mum asking her if she didn't mind keeping the children for a while as he didn't know how long it would be before Faith made her appearance.

"I'm not one to sugar coat things," Louis half laughed. "Can you live with what she said? Marian is a passionate woman so I can only imagine every word holds some truth to it. Where it is a lie or embellishment on the truth?" He said.  "Let's go back to Zayn. Harry is leaving to go back to Marian."

Kaia placed her hand on Louis' arm. "I'm sorry for not being a better friend to you in the past, Lou," she said with a small smile. "The things I've done were very wrong of me and I'll never be able to forgive myself. I'm sorry."

"Thanks for saying that Kaia it means a lot. Let's put the past behind us, that is where it belongs. We can only work on the future and be better people for those we love," Louis said walking them back towards Zayn.

Zayn reached for Kaia's hand when she sat down. "She does love you," he said gently. "She's just not herself."

"You don't need to make excuses for her, Zayn," she said.

"Baby, please stop beating yourself up over this." He said glancing at Louis. "We just need to give it some time. Alright?"

She gave him a small nod and then took a drink of her tea. "I think you need to give my husband lessons on how I like my tea, Tommo," she said giving them a small smile.

"Thanks, Kaia" Louis gave her a wink. "I try my best."

Kaia smiled back and rested her head on Zayn's shoulder.

Harry made his way back to Marian's room and saw her lying there with her eyes closed. He glanced at the blood pressure machine and was glad to see it was reading normal. He sat down next to her and kissed her cheek.  "Are you alright?"

"You were gone for a long time," Marian said in a childlike pout then began to rub her pregnant belly.  "Harry, tell me you didn't send her in here. You promised to be on my side."

He covered her hand with his. "No, love. I didn't send her in. I'm figuring she wanted to check on you and make sure you were alright." He said softly. "And I am on your side. I always am," he said. "I know you're upset with her, but she does love you and she does care."

"Please," Marian rolled her eyes at the notion. "She is only worried about clearing her conscious, but won't admit to the wrongdoing.  I don't want her near my baby."
