Chapter 11

Louis turned to look at Kaia.  "I don't know," he said.  "Kaia, are you okay?" He asked.

Kaia turned when she heard Louis say her name. "Yeah, I....." she gave him a small smile. "I just want to protect her," she said looking back at Faith. "But..." she glanced at her sister. "I have this feeling both her and Marian don't want me near her." She said sadly.

"Don't forget she has a daddy who loves you. Have faith that Marian will come around." Louis said with a smile.  "I'm pretty sure that little girl will melt everyone's heart."

"I know," she said quietly and glanced at Harry who smiled at her. Kaia put her hand in the nursery window. "She already has." Her thoughts drifted to Marian and this not knowing was eating her alive. Whatever Zayn had given her was starting to wear off.

Dr. Sims went looking for Harry and found him by the nursery. "Mr. Styles."

Harry spun around and rushed to him. "Is she alright?" He asked. "Please tell me she's alright."

"May I speak to you privately?"

Harry glanced back at everyone. "They're all family so you can speak freely."

"Let's go somewhere more private," Dr. Sims said and turned to walk down the hallway.

Kaia rushed to Harry's side and took his hand as they followed Dr. Sims.

Liam held Katia's hand tightly as they followed Louis and Zayn who followed Harry.

Dr. Sims took them to a private waiting room and shut the door.

"Your wife's heart was weakened during labor," he said. "I looked at the readings from a few hours before and her blood pressure was incredibly elevated." He said.

Kaia gasped and tried to pull away from Harry but he held tightly to her hand, not letting her go.

"Go on," Harry said.

"She suffered from an arrithmyia and from the force of her labor, her heart grew even weaker. That's why she's flat lined. We've put her into a medically induced coma. We need her body to heal from the trauma of giving birth and from her weakened heart." He glanced at everyone in the room.

Harry was trying to remain calm but he felt his knees weaken. "And what do we do?"

"We continue to monitor her. Daily EKG's. putting her in a coma is the best viable option at the moment," Dr. Sims continued on. "And depending on how her tests continue to go the next few days, we might need to look at the next possible action."

"And what's that?" Kaia asked.

"She may need to have a heart transplant."

Harry released Kaia's hand and had to sit down. "Oh God," he said under his breath.

"Harry, you can go and see her if you'd like," Dr. Sims said.

Harry nodded. "I...I need a few minutes."

Dr. Sims nodded. "I wish I had better news. I'm sorry."

"A heart transplant." Zayn said stunned. "After everything she has been through and now this."

Louis took Zayn's hand and squeezed it tight.  "We have to be strong for her. She is going to need us. All of us," he said looking around at everyone.  "We can start to do research about heart transplants and get her the best doctors. The best heart, as we know she has the biggest and most stubborn heart in the world. It won't give up on her, just like us." 

"Liam," Katia whimpered.

Liam pulled Katia back into his arms and he could feel her sobs. "Louis' right, cupcake. She's going to be alright." He said gently and watched as Kaia moved to look out the window.
