Shrieks in the Darkness

Part One

A shrill cry echoed in the distant as Gavin Rolanger ran through the abandoned city. Why had he come back? Because he felt something? Because he thought that something or someone was still out here? It didn't matter at the moment. What mattered was that he had to keep running. 

Icy wind slashed at his face as he dashed over and under fallen debris. He heard the cry again, but it seemed as if it was it was closer. And then again...and again...and three more after that.

They were traveling in groups. 

There was know way he was going to make it out of this. Then he heard the rumbling of a car. He saw the headlights and stopped dead in his tracks. This was it. If he wasn't going to get eaten alive, he was going to be hit by a car. Gavin fell to the ground and threw his hands over he face preparing to take his last breath, until the stopping of tires was heard and a voice screamed out at him.

"Hurry up and get in the car!"

Gavin looked up and saw that the car was covered in metal pieces creating armor. He saw a shadowy figure poking its head out of the car. Gavin was frozen with horror until he heard the cries at the loudest they had ever been. He quickly ran to the other side of the car and jumped in. 

"Hang on!", the unknown figure spoke.

And as that sentence was uttered, the car backed up at record speed, spun in a circle and drove in the opposite direction. Gavin stared out the window and back at the figure before passing out in pure exhaustion.
