"Marcus?!"

I jump up. Kevin looks at me with alarm.

"You okay?" he asks.

"No," I say. That voice. I know it from anywhere. It's Peter. I know his voice better than anyone.

"Marcus!?" he calls again. I look around and then I spot him. He's running toward me with a surfboard under his arm. He hasn't changed a bit since I last saw him and that's why this moment is that much harder on my heart. It pounds in my chest, hitting so hard my teeth are rattling. Tears are at war with my will and I can't move. I'm paralyzed by fear.

"Marcus," Kevin says taking my hand. I snatch it away and get up. There's no time to think, so I just start running.

My legs carry me to Kevin's car. I try to catch my breath but it won't slow down. I'm breathing faster now. I see Kevin running over to me. When he's close, he holds my hand and counts with me.

"One breath marcus, two, good three, four, " he counts. I don't see Peter walking up behind him. I don't feel myself swinging. I don't feel anything. I can't breathe. I'm back on the locker room floor crying and hurting.

"Marcus, " Kevin says.

"He's hyperventilating, " Peter says helping Kevin pick me up. I close my eyes.

Kevin POV.

"He's hyperventilating, " the guy says. He helps me pick up Marcus. His eyes close.

"Marcus?!" I say. We put him on the back seat of the car and I grab a water from the trunk. I sit him up and try to get water in his mouth.

"Is he okay?" the guy asks peeking inside the car at Marcus. I ignore him and fan Marcus' face.

"Wake up M, " I plead as his eyes slowly open. He starts pushing me away and screaming stop.

"Stop get away, "he screams, "don't touch me! I don't want it! Please stop." He sounds so desperate to get it away and my heart breaks in two. What happened five months ago was worse than I thought.

"It's me, Kevin calm down Marcus, " I say holding his hands down. He looks at the guy and something in his eyes change. I've never seen him look so scared. I look over at the boy and he looks at me with an expression I can't read.

"Who are you?" I ask.

"Me and Marcus go way back, " he says. "It wasn't the most pleasant past." He looks down at his hands.

"Y-you left me, "Marcus says trying to catch his breath. " you...they..." He starts breathing faster.

"Look, man, I'm going to need you to leave, " I say to the guy. He starts walking away. When he's gone I look down at Marcus and his eyes are closed again. " you okay?"

"H-he, " he gasps for air trying to speak. I shush him and hold him close as I wait for him. His breathing is slow and steady now but I still wait. When his eyes open again, their red and full of tears.

"Let it out, " I say. He cries into my chest getting tears and snot on my shirt but I don't care.

"Who was that guy?" I ask after he finished crying.

"I don't want to talk about it," he says getting out of my lap. I follow him out and stand in front of him.

"Do you want me to take you home?" I ask. He nods and gets into the front seat. I walk around and get in the driver's seat. The drive home is quiet. I hate quiet.
