Shrieks in the Darkness

Part Two

Gavin awoke to find himself lying on an old mattress and a bright light being shined in his face. 

"Hmmm....looks like you're gonna be alright", a voice spoke as the light was shut off.

Gavin sat up and looked at his surroundings; he seemed to be in an old car repair shop; he saw that the armored car, that had saved his life, was by the closed garage door and there was a desk with metal scraps all over it. Gavin saw himself in the reflection of a scrap of metal on the floor; he looked like shit. His black hair was a mess and it looked like he hadn't showered in days (which was true). Gavin looked at the person who shined the light in his face. The stranger was wearing a old jacket, jeans and glasses...he seemed to be about as old as Gavin himself. 

"Who are you?", Gavin asked in a strained voice.

"Hmmm?", the stranger didn't seem to be paying attention.

"Hey buddy, who are you and what happened?", before he could say anything else, a granola bar and water was shoved in his hand.

"Eat this. You're gonna need the energy"

Gavin stared as the stranger went to grab some food for himself. 

"What? I told you to eat. We need to get a move on."

"I don't even know who you are. What....happened?"

"Names Jayce. I was scavenging along the roads when I saw you walking towards the city. I knew that there was no way you were going to make it out of there alive, so after about an hour of waiting for you to come back, I made the stupid decision and went to look for you. I found you running, you jumped in my car and passed out. You should just be lucky I got you before the 'Lingers' did."

"Yeah...my name is Gavin", It was all coming back to him now,"W-what do you mean Lingers?....Y-you mean those.....monsters outside?"

"Yeah. You encounter one before?"

"No...not really, but I just remember seeing....people...getting attacked and screaming...."

FLASHBACK: 

I was in my apartment....watching T.V....when I heard a scream from down the hall. I got up and cracked the door open....someone screamed again..but this time it didn't sound human....I waited for a few minutes, I didn't hear anything and shut the door.

I went back to watching T.V and fell asleep...I woke up about thirty minutes later to banging on my door. 

"Help! Someone! Please help me!"

It was my neighbor. I got up and opened the door. When I saw my neighbor, it looked like she had been running and was horrified. 

"Thank God! Please you have to help! I was taking a walk when I saw an o-old women get attacked by..this..this..THING! And...and..I ran back to my apartment to find that the security guard had been attacked too....and everyone was panicking.....and...and"

"Woah, woah...calm down. Are you sure you're okay? Are you drunk? Did you maybe eat something weird?-", she cut me off before I could finish my sentence.

"No..no! Please you have to help! Everyone is running and scared..p-people were calling the cops but..but...these things..they just keep attacking people...."

Just then a ice cold cry was heard.

"Nononono! They're here! We have to run-", but before she finished her sentence, she started running to the stair well. I stared down the hall and waited....and waited....

"AHAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!"

That was my neighbor...she was screaming. I ran to the stair well...and what I saw horrified me...my neighbor was laying down on the floor. Half of her body was frozen and covered in blood from her arm that had been forcefully ripped off.....I immediately threw up..and...

END OF FLASHBACK

"Dude?"

"Huh?..oh sorry", Jayce was looking at Gavin with a concerned expression.

"Ya sure?"

"Yeah...yeah! I'm fine"

Jace turned away and went to open up the garage. 

"You better get eating. Even if you don't come with me, you are gonna need the energy."

"Where are you going?", Gavin asked as he stood up.

"Well Gavin, I can't tell you that unless you decide to come with me."

What should Gavin do? If he did go, he could be murdered by this stranger...but if he didn't, he would be eaten alive by the monsters outside.

"Why...why are you helping me?" Gavin asked with a lost expression.

"You don't seem like that bad of a guy...if fact, you seem pretty harmless. So if you try anything, I can easily take you out. So, are you in?" Jayce said in the most confident voice.

Gavin was a little taken back by Jayces comment, but he was even more shocked at what he himself said next:  

"Yeah...I'm in"

Oh my goodness, this chapter felt like it took forever to write.
