"Thank you for protecting her" Hopper said. I just smiled at him and he gathered his stuff to leave. "I hope to see you all at the town Christmas party Thursday" He said before he left. What? My mom watched him drive away and closed the door. "What was he talking about?" I asked. "I'm guess there's a town party?" I nodded and went up to Dawn's room where her and Jane were still eating waffles. "Jane, can I ask you something?" I asked. She looked up at me with a mouth full of waffles and nodded.

"Do you want to be called Jane or El in this house?" She put her waffle down and swallowed what was in her mouth. "Jane in house. El near friends" She said. "Okay, good to know. Now that you'll be staying here for a while, you're going to need new clothes. Finish your Eggo and come into my room please" I said. She mumbled an 'okay' as she shoved another Eggo in her mouth.

Hey, come outside. I'm in the backyard

I grabbed my phone and a sweatshirt. It was getting cold. I went down stairs and out the back door. There he was, sitting on my porch steps. I cleared my throat. He jumped and looked back at me. "Oh, you actually came" He said. I rolled my eyes. "What do you need?" I asked. "I need to make sure you're okay."  He paused and stepped closer to me, only by an inch though. "Why wouldn't I be okay?"

"Because when I ran to El, you went into the forest. Then the next time I saw you, you were on the floor crying with your fist all bloody" He said. "That wasn't because of you" I said looking away. "Then why?" He grabbed my hands in his. "The fist was because of the stupid Loren bitch in school. The crying was because I had a vision about my missing brother and sister" I said. When I mentioned my family I started to get a little emotional. My eyes were pricking with tears. He let go of my hands and embraced me in a hug. I wrapped my arms around his little figure and gave into the tears. Why am I opening up to a complete stranger?

"I was told today that I was a fuck up" He said after a little bit of just holding me. "By who? Why?" I asked. "Dustin and Lucas mainly. They told me that I really messed up by kissing you and then leaving. Then Will told me I messed up because he could sense your feelings were really hurt. And Max said that, when you went into the forest, she could tell that you would never be able to forgive me" I could tell his voice was getting very soft and gentle. 

"I understand why you left me. You found El, I get it. She was your first love, she's basically your girlfriend. She's the only reason you needed me anyways. I understand why you kissed me too. You were sad. You felt bad. You felt bad that all this happened to me today. Your emotions were all messed up. I get it, it was sympathy. I understand" I said. I turned my back and reached out for the door knob. "I didn't do it because I felt bad for you. I genuinely feel happy around you for some reason. And El's not my girlfriend. She was my best friend. She helped me a lot" He said. "Good to know" I smiled at him and turned for the knob again. My hand was grabbed and put by my side. 

It felt like everything was in slow motion. He turned my face to look at him. His eyes met mine and they twinkled even in the dim sky's light. His eyes kept looking from mine, to my lips, back up to my eyes. I felt like he was teasing me. I couldn't take it any longer. No matter how much of an asshole he was today, I craved him. I put my arms around his neck and pushed my lips onto his. He kissed back immediately. His arms went around my waist and he pushed me closer to his warm body. My hands found their way to his curly mopped hair. I broke the kiss and his eyes fluttered open and met mine right away.

 "We don't tell anyone about this, right?" He asked. I laughed. "Yeah" He looked at me and laughed. Then again, his lips met mine. But this time it was just a quick peck on the lips. "Okay, you have to go. I told El I wanted to talk to her. And my mom can't know i'm out here with you" I said. He pulled away from me. I turned around to open the door. "Wait!" He said. I looked at him, "Here, hope you can go" He smiled at me. He handed me a card. I gave him a hug and kissed his cheek. "Text me later, okay?" I said. He nodded and smiled at me. "Now go in so I can make sure you get in safe" He smiled. "Wow, such a gentle man" I laughed at him. He smiled wide and I went inside. I said bye through the window and I saw him leave back to his house.
