A/N: Sorry for updating kinda late today, i was too busy being a lazy asshole.
Connor walked into school the next day, anticipation for the end of school drowning out the sounds in the hallway. He took a deep breath. Death was just a few hours away. He would finally do it, instead of wimping out like he normally would. It was unlikely that anything could change his mind, but the little voice of hope suggested otherwise, giving him time. He didn't have anything else to depend on.
Jared laughed, grabbing his attention.
"Hey, Connor. I'm loving the new hair length. Very troubled teen chic."
People laughed, whispering amongst themselves. Nobody cared. Nobody sympathized. If anyone even tried to say that bullying him was wrong, they would be shot down with the typical, "He's crazy. Remember how he threw a printer in second grade?", derailing the conversation from its original topic. People were like that, and Connor was bullied relentlessly because of it.
Evan related.
"Jared. Don't do- don't do that. That's really mean," Evan said. He cared. He sympathized.
However, Jared wasn't listening. He was cowering fear, practically withering beneath Connor's death glare.
"I was kidding. It was just a joke."
Jared was practically shaking at this point.
"Yeah, no it was funny. I'm laughing. Can't you tell? Am I not-"
Connor spotted Evan out of the corner of his eye. A blush formed on his face, and stayed there. Jared raised his eyebrows as Connor remained silent.
"Well, I'm going to just leave you two alone." Jared walked away, suddenly regaining his confidence as he gave Evan a little eyebrow wiggle and disappeared into the crowd.
As if on cue, the bell rang and the halls cleared, truly leaving the two alone. Connor was still blushing, and Evan was getting nervous.
"Hey, thanks for doing that."
"What? Um, yeah sure. No-no problem." Evan smiled awkwardly. The pair stood in awkward silence once more.
Connor looked up timidly.
"So, what happened to your arm?"
"Oh, I um, I fell out of a tree, actually."
"You fell out of a tree? That is just the saddest fucking thing I've ever heard. Oh my god."
"I know." Evan looked down at his feet. Connor wasn't the nicest person, but he could've been a little less harsh. Geez.
"No one's signed it."
"No, I know."
"I'll sign it."
"Oh. Um... you don't have to."
"Do you have a sharpie?"
Evan quickly reached into his pocket, producing the marker. Connor's fingers once again brushed against his. Evan blushed even more than before, his heart fluttering. Why did he feel that way? It was just an accident. He was making a big deal about nothing.
Connor roughly pulled Evan's arm. He noticed Evan's wince and loosened his grip a little, not wanting to hurt the smaller boy.
"Here." Connor handed back the sharpie.
Evan looked down and read the "CONNOR" scrawled out in big letters.
"Now we can both pretend that we have friends." With a small smile, Connor turned around and left.
"I'd be your real friend," Evan said in a small voice as the brunette continued to walk away.
