The Vampires' Lives

Author: Kassidy Noel Williams

Ariana Kate Gilbert, Hanna Kline Michaelson, Katherine Sage Wesley, Sierra Carter Young, and myself were all sitting in a circle at the local mall, thinking about what else we should buy. They seemed really into being around people.

I was a bit uncomfortable. I haven't eaten in two and a half weeks, and the strong stench in the small room made me feel like I was gonna snap any second, and rip someone's head off. I finally told Katherine I didn't feel so great and that I was gonna go home to get what I needed. She said she understood, so I left.

I was in the parking lot, almost running, to get to my car. Ariana had rode with me here, but I figured one of the others would give her a ride home.

I heard something nearby.

I looked around and saw a man on the opposite side of the aisle staring at me very intently. I knew if he tried to do something to me, I wouldn't even have to try too hard to defend myself. It was like one, to a thousand. Him being the one, and me being the thousand.

No human in the entire universe, no matter how strong, could possibly take me on, and win in the end. No one would even wanna try to if they knew what I was. Well, not unless they had some kind of death wish.

I heard his footsteps coming toward me. They were so loud, I'm sure if I was a human, I'd still be able to hear them. Maybe he was doing that on purpose, because he thought it might scare me.

I unlocked my car, and put the my filled shopping bags in the backseat. I closed the door, and before I turned, I felt a fast, hot breath on the back of my neck.

I turned slowly, guessing what was to come. I started to plan what I was going to do to him, and then maybe I could go back inside with my friends and feel as comfortable as them.

He was just a few inches from my face. I stepped back quickly, acting as a human would at first so I can go along with my plan. He didn't smell as good as the people inside. That was a disappointment. I saw a glint of shiny metal in his jacket pocket. He pulled it out fast, and I saw it was a butcher knife. I had a forced expression of shock and fear, like a human would, no doubt.

He sliced my forearm, and since I hadn't eaten in a long time, it stung. I winced at the pain.

"Don't scream, or I'll kill you," he said, his tone serious.

I didn't anticipate this. I chose not to go along with my plan. He pissed me off, so I wanted revenge. And I wouldn't dare give him one bit of mercy. No way. Not with the way I was feeling.

I had a knowing smile on my face, my eyes dark. He seemed confused, not expecting I would find his attack humorous. I looked at the reason I was smiling. He followed my gaze. The slash from the butcher knife completely healed in front of our eyes. The cut closed up within seconds. He looked at me, his eyes wide, full of fear.

"'Don't scream, or I'll kill you!'" I mocked him, my head shaking with laughter. I shoved him with all the force I could build up with so little human blood in my system. It was enough.

His head banged against the car's backseat window, cracking the glass. I smelled the blood on his scalp, and instantly, my body tensed up with excitement. My eyes turned bloodshot, and my fangs bulged my upper lip. His expression showed even more fear, but I didn't think he knew what was really happening.

"What the-? What are you?! No little girl like you could possibly have this much strength, unless she wasn't human." he whispered, his voice fading.

"Aww, I don't wanna tell you. That will ruin all the fun for me. Maybe I'll just show you instead," I taunted. I opened my mouth, searching his neck for the main artery. It was better with him frightened. His pulse flowed faster, so I could search for the right veins with ease.
