Is This Friendship?

I walked into school with my head down, My green hoodie was over my head so no one could properly see my face and I made no eye contact with anyone, I just focused on getting to my classroom. Suddenly I heard a voice from behind me, I bit my lip and gulped.

"Hey mute kid!" he called out to me.

I kept my head down and slowly shook my head. I recognised the voice, It was Biff. Biff was a bully to everyone but he seemed to enjoy picking on me most just because of how quiet I am.

"Are you ignoring me?!" He snapped.

Tears started falling from my eyes, i held my hoodie over my face and I ran towards my classroom.

"Weirdo!" Biff yelled.

I sat down at a bench outside my classroom and cried, school was so difficult to get through when you have no friends to help you through it. Eventually the bell rung, i grabbed my books and lined up outside the classroom. The teacher let us all inside and i sat at the back of the room by myself. The teacher started marking the role and then she called out my name.

"Sub!"  The teacher called out.

I waved my hand around in the air and the teacher smiled. 

"Thank you Sub." She smiled.

"Why don't you just say here or present, you always wave your hand around like an idiot." A girl sitting in front of me said.

I shrugged.

The girl and her friend started laughing.

                                                                                          Lunch time

The bell rang to go to lunch, I grabbed my books and put them into my green backpack. I walked into the lunch room and sat down alone.

"Hey Sub, sitting alone again?" Biff asked nastily.

 I pulled my hoodie further over my face so he couldn't see me.

"Maybe if you weren't so quiet you would have more friends." He smirked.

I shrugged.

"Have fun Mute." He laughed.

I got up from the table I was sitting at and ran out of the lunch room. I started to cry, I hated my life so much, No friends, No loving family, I hated every bit of it! Suddenly I ran into someone I fell backwards onto the ground.

"Hey be careful." he said getting up off the ground.

My eyes widened, he was really tall and I felt kinda threatened. His hair was kinda curly at the front and it was a dark brown colour and he had green eyes. His shirt was light blue and said I heart cats on it with cat pictures. I slowly got up off the ground and backed away slowly.

"Are you ok?" He asked.

I bit my lip and shrugged.

"Are you... afraid of me?" He wondered.

I stared at him for a while, I wasn't sure whether to run, listen to what he had to say or try to communicate with him.

"Um..." he said awkwardly.

I looked from side to side and then looked back at him.

"Well... Um I'm Denis and you are?" He asked trying to start a conversation.

I got out a little notepad that I had in my pocket and wrote down "Sub"  I handed it to Denis and he read it.

"Your name is Sub?" He asked.

I nodded.

"Well it's nice to meet you Sub." Denis smiled handing me back my notepad.

I put my notepad back in my pocket and started lightly rubbing my hands together. i did this when I was kinda nervous and didn't know what to do.

"You want to come with me and meet some of my friends?" Denis asked.

I bit my lip and shrugged.

"Alright well.. I'll maybe see you later." Denis smiled walking away.

I gave him a small wave and continued walking to my next class.

                                                            After school

I walked out of my last class of the day knowing I had to now head home, I dreaded going home in the afternoons. I couldn't stop thinking about Denis, he is probably the first person to say something nice to me. I walked outside the school gates, I looked down the path that led home and then I looked down the other path that went to the park. I bit my lip and decided to go to the park for a while. I walked around the park, it was a nice place to get away from problems for a while, I continued to walk around the park and then I saw Denis and his friends were here as well. I wanted to go say hi but I didn't know what Denis's friends were like. Denis turned around and saw me.

"Oh hi again Sub." Denis smiled

I cautiously walked towards them.

"It's ok, my friends don't bite." Denis reassured me.

I looked at Denis's friends and they all smiled at me.

"Guys this is Sub, Sub this is Corl, Alex and Sketch." 

Corl had a similar hair style to Denis, he had blue eyes and he was wearing a blue shirt with a penguin on it, Alex had light brown hair, glasses and a purple galaxy style husky shirt and Sketch had lightish hair and an orange shirt with a green dragon on it.

"Hey nice to meet you." Corl smiled putting out his hand to shake mine.

I looked at his hand and moved my hand away. Corl looked at me with confusion and moved his hand away as well.

"Hello Sub." Said Alex.

"Whats up." Sketch smiled.

I nodded.

"He doesn't really talk much but I'm sure we can find other ways to communicate right?" Denis said hopefully.

There was silence for a couple of seconds but then Alex spoke up.

"Oh yeah of course." Alex nodded.

"Yeah sure." Corl agreed.

"No worries we can do that." Sketch nodded in agreement.

I was starting to feel like I was making things awkward. I grabbed my notepad and wrote down "Am I making things difficult because if I am I can leave"

Denis read the note out loud and they all shook there heads.

"Of course not Sub." Alex said shaking his head.

"No way don't think that Sub and by the way the notepad idea is genius!" Corl smiled.

"Sub your not making things difficult its all good bud." Sketch reassured me.

"We are happy to have you here." Said Denis.

I sighed of relief and for the first time in a long time I smiled.
