Reader's P.O.V.
I tapped the tall red-orange haired boy on the shoulder. He abruptly turned around. It was slightly surprising that he wasnt with his identical twin, like he usually was.
"Oh, hi ______. Is there something you want to talk about?"
"Um..." I didn't expect him to say that so straightforwardly. My hands slightly tightened around the smallish box behind my back. I loosened grip once I relaized I was holding it too tight. Because of my hesitation, Kaoru tilted his head and gave me the puppy face. I already like him, why does he have to make this so difficult? I exhale deeply.
"Happy birthday, Kaoru." I shove the box into his hands. Then I stand on my tiptoes and give him a little peck on the cheek. My cheeks heat up a little and I turn to leave. A hand is on my shoulder. Kaoru makes me turn and face him. I look at the ground, avoiding eye contact. It becomes even harder when he lifts my chin to try to make me look at him.
"What is it?" He asks.
"A birthday present." The bell rings. "It is time for the next class. Goodbye." I say and walk away.
For the rest of my morning classes, I try to avoid Kaoru. However, this fails. In science, (the class before lunch) I hear the Hitachiin twins whispering behind me. I heard my name once or twice, and felt a stare bore into my back. I turn around and look at them. I meet one of their gazes. Which one is it?
He flicks a small piece of paper at my and I catch it. Then I read it.
'Hey, ______. Can you meet me after the Host Club at the maze?
~Kaoru'
I re-crumple the paper and throw it back at him. He looks at me with a questionable look.
'Yes.' I mouth.
"Miss _____, I hate to interrupt your personal conversations, but I have a class to run. So if you please." I turn around, once again facing the front of the classroom.
*Time-skip*
I walk to the maze, uncertainty knotted inside my stomach. I look at the entrance.
"______? Is that you?" I hear.
"Yeah-" A hand quickly shoots out from the hedge-maze and pulls me, entwining fingers while I recieve a hard shove from behind, bringing me into a dark part of the mazw. "Hello?" I call out.
"Hi." I hear a whisper by my ear. A shiver runs through the air, as excitement pulses through me. I know that voice.
"K-Kaoru?"
"Yes..."
I pull the hand closer to me, reeling in Kaoru. I embrace him, burying my head into his chest. "Do you like what I gave you... for your birthday?"
"Yes. I do. But I want two more things."
"Two more! What are they?" I say slowly.
"Will you, ah- be my girlfriend?"
"No, duh!" I ruffle his hair and smile at him. "What's the other thing?"
He looks down at me, and smiles. Then he kisses me. I do the natural, kiss back.
I never will forget that day. It was Kaoru's special day, but also mine. A day when our lives crossed. Never to separate. :)
