Long ago, before the darkness took dominion over the night; When there was not but cave drawings and frantic scrawlings to tell the tales of old. When our ancestors watched the Moon grow closer and closer to it's love, the great Sea, a great spectacle arose and was set in stone and written upon the skies. Though many now write it off as a chance of science, there is a far greater purpose for the event that will forever mark the beginning of an age.
Since the dawning of our world, the Moon has loved the Sea, and the sea it. Their love for eachother was of a desire to be one with one another. They spent endless nights watching eachother, and the Sea followed the Moon as it soared across the sky. The Moon found it's desire so strong that it reached for the Sea. Each month, he found himself growing closer and closer to the Sea, and the Sea pulled her lover down towards it. They stressed and strained for eachother , and the stars and comets pushed upon the Moon.
There then came a time when they were filled with joy at the rush of being with eachother for eternity, joined by the bond of great natural forces from which they would never be separated. As they neared eachother, the Moon began to shatter, breaking from its definite form and racing towards its lover. But as it fell, something awoke inside. A malice and wild thing that could no longer be contained. It was a beast, a beast with a thirst for vengeance.
The creature had seen the humans and how they loved the Sea. They were beside it and tread over it for as long as they had lived. The beast was jealous and vengeful, filled with the desire to cleanse the world of its filth. So the beast broke free of its rocky prison and hurled itself towards our world, but in that moment our guardian, the great watcher, rose up to meet it. The great watcher opened its eyes to the planes of man and beast and engaged in battle with the creature.
They wrestled and fought for a day, matching and clashing powers creating great spectacles of light and rock. In the end of the day, unable to defeat the beast, our guardian opened his eye to the third plane. Foreseeing his own imprisonment our guardian released his power to preserve the life of humanity. The beast was destroyed and banished from our world for millennia, and the down pouring shards of the Moon were kept from raining upon our world and surely destroying it. It was kept out by the force of our guardian's power, and became an encircling ring of light to maintain watch of our world. Though, the Moon's anger is still kindled toward humanity, and his plotting will not cease to the end of the age. He watches, and prepares for the day when he can once and for all enact his vengeance. For now, he walks among us, in human form. Waiting.
