Chapter 3 (TBC)

I watched the fire burn, the flames flickering in front of my eyes. I heard the occasional 'pop' and 'smack' of the damp wood heating up in the short distance. I closed my eyes and snuggled closer to Kaedan. We were roasting marshmallows on the balcony of our hotel room. He said that we could do whatever I wanted because we didn't have to go to school today.

I chose to get a bunch of sappy, terrible movies, stuff for s'mores and a hotel room. We stayed up all night making fun of stupid movies and jumping on our beds at the hotel. Eventually we got tired of that and now we are making s'mores, Kaedan is already passed out and snoring on the ground next to me and I'm watching the flames dance in sync.

I sat and watched as the flames hit the she sky and ashes flew up into the night. I smiled at the fire as it flickered and the flames grew high, tall and proud. They slowed their rhythmic dance and started to smolder, their ancient ceremony coming to a halt.

I looked up at Kaedan's peaceful face, his features illuminated by the now tiny flames dancing in the pit. His eyes were shut and his hair hung in his face his lips parted slightly his mouth forming a slight 'O' shape. His skin glowed a sharp bronze in the fire-light.

His eyes fluttered and then shut his arms wrapping around my tiny frame, holding me close. I looked back at the fire-pit and shut my eyes, listening to the soft 'thump' of Kaedan's heart and his chest moving up and down. I smiled, everything is so peaceful right now, I wish it would stay like this forever.

I yawned, my eyes fluttering open slowly. I stretched my arms and legs and snuggled back into my pillow.

Wait...

Since when are pillows so hard? I sat up and looked over to my right, a fire, huh. To my left, a city, so I'm on a balcony. Cool. Then I looked behind me, Kaedan, so HE was my pillow. I hopped up and walked back into our hotel room, I walked over to the mini-kitchen and to the coffe maker and started the machine.

I walked back outside to find that Kaedan was still in the same spot snoring away. I smirked devilishly and tiptoed over to him, I crouched down slowly so not to wake him up. I poked his nose with the tip of my finger, I tried not to laugh as he rubbed his face.

I raised my hand ready to slap him. I scooted closer, just a little bit in a better ready stance. I leant down a little bit and swung my hand down-

"Boo!"

My eyes widened and I squeaked falling back. Just as I was about to hit the still smoldering fire Kaedan flew forward and caught me.

"Uh... I um" I stuttered as he looked at me, curiosity burning in his eyes. It smelled like something was burning, I sniffed, burning.... Hair? "Ahh!" I shouted "My hair is burning!"

He quickly pulled me back away from the hot smoldering fire-pit and sat me next to him. I blushed as I noticed my arms around his neck, I unlatched them quickly scooting over a little bit only now noticing his hands still on my waist. He looked down and smirked looking at me amused with my reaction.

"Uh... Ah ha... Um" I stumbled over my words, my cheeks turning bright red. He chuckled at me.

"Oh! There's the coffee machine!" I muttered standing up quickly and running into the kitchen. I stood there awkwardly glaring at the pot for a minute.

"What're you looking at?" I muttered still glaring.

I walked over to the cupboard and grabbed a mug. I set the mug down and poured myself a cup, not bothering to add any cream or sugar.
