10 // Pops

I was getting to know Alyssa. She's so funny and beautiful, inside and out. She told me funny stories about Scott, like when he tried to ride his bike up a tree or when he broke his leg trying to mimic Alyssa doing a flip. She also said all the girls come for his looks but leave because of his past. I wouldn't do that.
Eventually we were at the diner, Scott pulling in behind us. Scott got out and yelled "God, speed limits must be for sissy's!" Alyssa rolled her eyes and we walked into the diner. I saw Pops, Alyssa's dad. He was short and a little chubby.
He waddled over to Alyssa and hugged her, looked at me, smiled and then when he saw Scott he yelled, "Scottie boy! Is that you?" Scott hugged the old man, bending over a little. Pops was a bit shorter than me.
Scott leaned back, "Pops! Can I please work here with you as an assistant manager? Alyssa said the job was open."
Pops nodded, "Of course! You and your little girlfriend can move upstairs, as well."
Scott smiled "I haven't gotten that far yet." Oh my god. Did he really just say that? Someone send help.
Pops looked at me. "Can you work or are you pregnant?"
I gasped as Scott said "No no! She isn't! Pops, be more caring in your words!"
Pops sighed. "Oh. I'm sorry, dear. You're just glowing."
He smiled as Scott relaxed. "Smooth."
"Actually," I butt in. "I'd love to be a waitress."
Pops looked at me. "Good idea, we only have Alyssa but she runs off! Everyday!"
Alyssa says, "Dad! Don't reveal my secrets!"
We all laughed again and Pops said "When can you start?"
I replied, "Tomorrow morning?" He nodded, going behind the counter, giving me a apron.
"Welcome to the family. Call me Pops." I nodded as he hugged me. I patted his back. This isn't so bad.
Mom walked in. She hugged Scott saying "I knew you'd come back."
She looked at Alyssa and pointed to me. "Friend of yours?"
Alyssa shrugged. "Yeah, but she was Scott's friend first."
Momma looked shocked. "Scott's friend or Scott's girlfriend?"
Scott butted in. "Scott's best friend." We laughed and Momma dusted my cheek with kisses. "Thank you for being with my boy."
I hugged her, "My pleasure! Even though he's a handful."
Momma sighed and chuckled. "Believe me, I know."
Pops butt in. "Marie, Rachel is going to be a waitress here. Scott will be an assistant manager, okay?"
She threw her hands up, "Praise Jesus! I need some help around here, since Alyssa is never available!" She gave Alyssa a death glare and Alyssa threw up her hands. Momma smiled, "You and Scott can move upstairs with Alyssa. She has furniture, but you'll need to buy new for your room."
I nodded. "Thank you, Marie."
She shook her head. "Call me Momma. You're a part of our family, too!" I hugged her and she hugged back. This is an amazing family.
