"Schizoaffective disorder is a chronic mental health condition characterized primarily by symptoms of schizophrenia, such as hallucinations or delusions, and symptoms of a mood disorder, such as mania and depression."(National Health on Mental Health).  To be diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder the person must go through a period during depression or mania, that occurs at the same time that symptoms of schizophrenia are present, must have delusions and hallucinations for 2 weeks or more, and mostly have symptoms of a major depression or bipolar disorder for the duration of the illness.
