Jaylyn read a sign, "Welcome To Spring Ville." Spring? He thought looking around at the snow. Shrugging it off he looked at his little brother's arm and saw a bruise. "What happened?" Howie turned away looking out the window. They drove past some shops and house until They turned off the highway. A mile or two up the gravel was the new house. All the way was nothing but trees. "Are you excited kids?" Mom asked with a smile. Jaylyn nodded his head looking back out the window.
They pulled up to a two story house. It looked small but comfy. Dad stood at the door way. Jaylyn grabbed his back pack and hopped out the car. "Come on in guys" As Jaylyn and Howie walked in dad stubbled to the kitchen. "Joe i thought you said you were gonna stop drinking!" Mom yelled. She wasn't mad... she was pissed. "I don't need your opinion!" Soon they got into a argument. Jaylyn looked at Howie. He was scared and shaky. Jaylyn grabbed his hand and walked up stairs to their room. The first door on the left. The room was old and smelt funny but it was nice.
Howie sat on his bed and sighed. "Come on Howie. Things are gonna get better. Think about, a new start." Jaylyn sat next to him. "A new start? What's a new start when they still fight, dad still drinks, and he is probably still gonna hit us?" Howie buried his face into the pillow. Jaylyn patted his back. "Just give it a chance." Jaylyn sighed. They could still here the fighting. The sound of they fighting was something they were used too. Something hit the window.
Jaylyn and Howie jumped up to look. Their stood a boy that looked 15 years old. He was bare foot with jeans and a button up shirt on. His face and skin were covered in dirt. We opened the window."Hey! Wanna be friends?!" The boy yelled. We ran down stairs and went outside to met him. "I'm Camie." The boy introduced himself with a smile and held out his hand. "I'm Jaylyn" he looked at Camie's hand and didn't care to touch it. "And this is Howie my little brother." Camie looked down at him. "Hi. I see you just moved here eh? Well I live a little farther down the road." He pointed in the direction of the road. "Why are you barefoot when their is snow?"
"It's not bad. There is barely any snow in Spring ville." He ruffled his short blonde hair. "I was stopping by to see who moved in. Wanna explore?" Jaylyn and Howie nodded. Their mom was happy they already made a new friend. "Lemme go get my sister. Come on." We started walking down the road to his house. His house was a trailer house. Not to fancy
but cool looking. "Stay out here. I will be right back." He ran inside for a few minutes and came out with his sister. She had long blonde hair and was barefoot too.. she had a button up shirt and jeans like Camie. "Hi, I'm Leni" she said with a smile. Jaylyn's heart was skipping beats as Camie introduced us. "I have a little brother your age Howie in that tree house. Go say hi." Howie ran to the tree house and climbed the ladder.
"Hey Jaylyn did you see the news paper?" Leni hands Jaylyn the paper. It read...
