Ruby’s Point of View
Fuck. My. Life.
No, seriously, can my life get any shittier? I mean, first, I get these… feelings for Mark. Then, I get kicked out my own home because of Mark. And now, half my family thinks I’m this worthless piece of fucking shit who can’t do anything on their own. I can’t win.
Thankfully, Pearl said she had an extra room in her house that I could stay at while I found an apartment I could afford. I called my parents first, but they didn’t have any room, since they moved into a smaller apartment when all of us kids moved out. Now that I understood. But then my dickhead of a brother refused to take me in because he claims I’m a freeloader of the family. Thanks Bro, love you too.
But I can deal with that later. Now I had to focus on packing up all of my stuff, so I never had to come back to this damn house. I can’t believe Emma would just kick me out. Over a fucking guy. God, if I had the nerve, I’d tell her what Mark did to me in the freezer. But no. I wouldn’t let Emma get hurt like that. Not again.
But I just shook that thought from my head. The past is in the past now. Maybe this will be like a new opportunity for everyone. Maybe now Emma will actually get a job as an actress now that I’m not around to hold her back.
I was shaken from my thoughts by a knock at the door. I knew it was Pearl, so I ran over to the door, and hugged her. But she felt different… More muscular…
And at that moment, I knew I was hugging Mark. And when he looked down and smirked at me, I just smacked him across the face.
“Stupid bastard…” I muttered to him as I checked through all of my bags, trying to make sure I didn’t forget anything.
“Now now, a young lady like yourself shouldn’t use such foul language.” Mark taunted, and I just gave him an agitated glare. God, if only looks could kill…
“Fuck off.” I snap at him, and he just smirks his annoying, yet, slightly adorable smirk. What? No, not adorable. Annoying. Right.
Then, after Mark walked away, there was another knock at the door. And this time, I made sure to check to see if it was Pearl before I hugged her.
“Pearl, thank God you’re here. Get me out of this hell.” I say, and she smiles at me.
“Alright. Let me help you get your stuff into the car.” She says, grabbing my suitcase.
“Thanks Pearl.” I smile a genuine smile as I pick up two boxes and headed to her car.
Pearl owned, like, this huge white truck, so we just put all of my stuff into there, since my tiny ass Bug wasn’t gonna do shit.
“You ready to go?” Pearl asked me, but then I remembered something.
“Yeah… I just have to do one more thing. Gimmie a second.” I say, before running back into the house.
When I walk in, Mark and Emma are making out on the couch. No surprise there. They both looked at me as I walked in, so I took a deep breathe, and said what I wanted to say.
“Later bitches. Nice knowing ya!” I yell as I chuck my house key at them and run back outside, slamming the door behind me, giggling like an idiot. “Run Pearl run!” I yell. “We gotta go!”
“What the hell’s got you so excited?” She laughs as she runs to her car.
“Oh nothing.” I smile as I run over to my car, starting it up and following Pearl back to her house.
Pearls house was about a half an hour away, so it wasn’t too far, but it was far enough to keep my distance from those asshats. When we got to her house, Pearl helped me bring in all of my stuff, which was a suitcase full of clothes and about four medium sized boxes. After we were done bringing in all of my stuff into her small, white house, we both plopped down on her dark blue couch.
“So, spill girl.” Pearl says, looking over at me.
“There’s nothing to spill!” I announce defensively, but she’s not buying it.
“Mmhmm, sure. And I’m Oprah. Now spill!” She smiles excitetdly, clapping her hands together.
And that’s what I did. I told her everything. I told her everything from the first time we actually met in person, to the time he came in and gave me spare clothes, to when he kissed me, up until now. And Pearl stayed silent the whole time, hanging onto every word. When I was done, Pearl finally spoke.
“Dude… This is just a those fanfiction on the internet…” She says, which makes us both burst out into a fit of laughter.
“Pearl, giving words of wisdom since 2014.” I say, which makes us both laugh even harder. After our laughing fit stopped, we got serious again.
“Hey Ruby, not that I don’t love having you here, but why didn’t you ask, like, Mom and Dad or Emerald or Jasper if you could stay with them. They have a lot more space than I do.” Pearl says, and I feel guilty. I sigh as I give my reply.
“Because Mom and Dad’s place is too small for the three of us, and Jasper seems to think I’m a failure, and that I freeload off of all of you guys…” I say, and Emma gives me a sad smile.
“Now, Ruby, you know that’s not true. You aren’t a freeloader. You were doing really well on your own for a while there. Jasper just likes to think he’s better than us ladies of the family.” Pearl said, and I couldn’t help but giggle a little bit. “Just because you’ve hit this bump in the road, doesn’t mean you’re going to be stuck there forever.”
“Yeah… I guess not.” I say, and Pearl lovingly smacks my arm.
“There ya go! Just stay positive, and you’ll be fine. You know what Augustus Waters said, right?” She asked, and I sigh, knowing about the depressing, yet amazingly adorable book.
“Right. ‘I’m on a roller-coaster that only goes up, my friend.’” I quoted the book, and Pearl smiled at me.
“See, you’ll be fine kid. Now, can I make you something while you get situated?” She asked me, and I politely refused.
“How about after I get situated, I go out and pick us up some takeout. My treat.” I offer, and Pearl debates her thoughts a minute before answering back.
“Are you sure?” She asks, and I shake my head yes. “Alright then. Can we get Chinease?” She asks, and I smile.
“Of course we can get Chinese.” I say, and we both head off into the small spare bedroom to which I will be staying.
