Ruby's POV

I was deep in thought again as I walked to school the next day. I said I would try to get close to Griffon yesterday, but I don't even have any classes with him and neither does Mia. Mia and I decided that it would be best if Griffon doesn't know our identities in case he was an enemy. He is a water fairy after all and him being a gem doesn't rid him of suspicion. Therefore, we decided to 'mask' our aura if we ever get the chance to come in contact with Griffon's hand. 'Masking' an aura is done to conceal one's presence and is usually done by the spies of the Fire kingdom when in enemy territory. This way, we can confirm his identity without revealing our own.

I was so deep in thought the entire day, that I didn't notice someone rounding the corner as I was walking to 5th period. I walked right into him, dropping my phone in the process.

"Oh I'm so sorry," said a male's voice. I looked up to see Griffon.

"No, it's fine," I said. He bent down to pick up my phone and handed it to me. This was the perfect chance. I reached out to take my phone. "Thanks," I said. Giving him one of my 'nice' smiles. The moment our hands touched, I felt the shock. The shock that can only be felt from skin to skin contact. Keeping the smile on my face, I glanced at his expression. Good, it doesn't seem like he felt the shock, which means I successfully masked my aura. Now, I know he's a gem without him knowing who I am. I took my phone back and walked away.

After school, Austen arrived at my house for a meet-up. I told him that I have confirmed that Griffon is a gem. He seemed surprised that I managed to confirm it so quickly.

"So my hunch was right. Griffon is the blue topaz," Austen said happily. "We have to try to get him to become a team with us."

"Can I just remind you that he is a Water fairy, which means he's probably an enemy," Mia said bitingly.

Taken aback by Mia's sudden outburst, Austen said defensively, "Look, I just figured it's better to have him as an ally rather than an enemy."

"I know how you feel Mia, but the emerald is right. We don't need any more enemies than we have now," I said, referring to the water hunters.

"You're siding with him now?" she asked angrily. "Have you forgotten what the Water fairies have done to my family? To your family? To ALL of us?" she continued feverishly. Mia took in a deep breath, "look, I just don't think we should trust Griffon so easily alright? Don't let your guard down before we know for sure he's not an enemy," directing that last part to Austen.

I sighed, "Of course I remember Mia. It's not something I'd ever forget. But that's exactly why I said what I said. We need to reform G.E.M. if we want any chance to stop the Water kingdom. And of course, I wasn't going to just trust a Water fairy, gem or not. We have to make sure he's not trying to kill us first."

Suddenly, I sensed another presence. There were around a dozen fairies surrounding my house. "You were followed," I said to Austen as I quickly looked out a window. Sure enough, I could see Water hunters lurking in the shadows.

"What? Are they Water hunters?" Austen asked in disbelief. I nodded. "I didn't sense them following me at all!"

"We'll talk later," I interrupted. "Let's take care of them first." We ran out the door and I headed for the nearest Water hunter. I kicked him in the head and sprang for the next one. I was punching and kicking but the hunters didn't stay down. I didn't like using magic unless I had to. Using magic reveals your strengths and weaknesses. Plus, these fairies weren't even that strong. They were merely pawns sent out to test us. I created two daggers with my flames and swung them at the enemy. If they can't be knocked out, then I'll have to kill them. Beside me, Austen and Mia were also fighting. Mia was doing just fine, pushing back the enemy, however, Austen seemed like he was struggling. He was using his Earth magic: throwing rocks and creating boulders and using them as shields. I went for the next hunter, dodged his Water piston and sliced his throat. I repeated this several more times, dodging attacks and cutting down the enemy one by one.
