"Kayla" a gentle voice could be heard but not seen.

"Kayla" I frantically span trying to find whomever was calling my name.

"Kayla!" I woke up to be pounded in the head with a pillow.

"Kayla come on, we're gonna be late for school!" My best friend and I lived together as I am the alpha's daughter and Hayley is the beta's daughter. It can be annoying most of the time but she's still great to have around, especially when annoying our father's.

I checked to see the time and realised I only had ten minutes until school started! SHOOT!

"HAYLEY, WE'RE GINNA BE LATE!!! WHY DIDN'T YOU WAKE ME UP EARLIER?!" I screamed whilst shoving her silhouette out of the room desperately trying to change into some fresh clothes. She came barging back into my room whilst I shoved a toothbrush into my mouth..."ah, too minty!" I ran back to the bathroom, Hayley merely holding in her laugh. I'd put too much toothpaste on my brush.

I ran back out into my room shoving books into my bag and nearly tripping down the stairs with Hayley on my heels.

The sweet smell of pancakes surrounded me as I sat down at the table mesmerized by the smell, ready to eat. I picked up a pancake as I'm pulled up and out of the door by Hayley. Sometimes, I hate that girl.

I managed to finally finish the pancake as we entered the school gates. Fortunately, it's only around the corner from us.

Lunchtime

"Look" Hayley pointed.

"Its Caleb, I swear he has the biggest crush on you" she exclaimed

"He does not" I fired back defending him. "Anyways, I'm waiting for my mate."

"Hi Kayla" There stood Caleb looking down at me with a grin.

I smiled back and gestured for him up sit. This is going to be a long lunch.

"Finally, school is over!" I twirled outside of the gates. Hayley stood there watching and laughing.

"Kayla?" Hayley said, a smirk tugging at the edge of her mouth.

"Mmm" I replied still spinning.

"I'll race you back" she grimaced, her wolf nearly taking over.

Finally, I stopped spinning as she caught my attention. "No wolves" I stated.

She grunted "ugh, deal"

"GO!" I screamed both sprinting off into the forest.

I weaves in and out of the true, the wind blowing through my hair. The light was fading, creating new shadows and dark patches around me. Eyes glimmeres from tree hallows. The wind wailed between distorted trunks, carrying the sickly stink of wood rot. I moved faster, ignoring the board that caught at my clothes and hair, the damp leaves that grimaced my skin.

I lifted my face, letting the light dance across my body. Bees hummed in and out of the pennyroyal. I inhaled it's minty smell and continued on delighting in the sound of my feet sliding through the leaves.

The trees stood utterly still, statues in a living museum, no leaf dared to fall.

The forest is the orchestra of my mind, playing one enchanting symphony after another. Her leaves dance to an unheard beat, whispering their songs to the wind. In here, sheltered by the mighty trees, is every kind of life from the humble beetle, to the enchanting birds of every colour. I stand talking the last of the cascading light fill me with warmth knowing I am home.

In the forest the sky vanishes almost completely, only a few fragments of blue remain-like scattered pieces of an impossible jigsaw puzzle. The air is rich of the fragrance of leaves and loam, damp too. Even so many hours after the rains have passed, the soiled remains wet, slowly releasing it's heady fog. Outside is the noon daylight, powerful rays of early summer, but in here everything is cool and the colours have the softness of that time just before twilight.

The only movement is the occasional bird, startling in a tree or a squirrel dashing up a nearby trunk. The sound of running water in the brook ha she hypnotic quality as music, I want to stop just to drink in the sound. I take in all the air my lungs will hold and expel it slowly. These runs in the forest are like a trip outside of my confused life, a visit to somewhere the measuring of time is done, only by the rising and setting of the sun.

As the moom rises, the sounds grow louder. Branches creaking, tiny feet shuffling through detritus, squirrels chattering, leaves rustling. Wind whistling around trunks, disturbing the leaves, birds singing, insects humming-chirring. Rustle of animals rooting in the underbrush, scrabbling of lizards on the tree bark. Limbs crashing to the ground, still, quiet, the soumds of crackling underfoot, breaking branches, clatteringeaves, soughing wind, groaning trees, squawking birds, hostile screeches from animals. Panting, barking tips, ruffling, ticking, tapping, rattling, shake, shiver, grating. The best of feet against a path, a soothing harmonic rhythm, then...silence.

The night is peaceful, allowing you to release your swarming thoughts, relaxing finally feeling the freedom you have long desired, until...

My body froze, screams could be heard and the disoriented smell of blood and death was everywhere. But one overpowered them all. "Mate!"  My wolf screamed jumping out of happiness.

My lack was being torn to pieces by the Bloodmoon Pack. The one everybody feared. The he was, alpha Xavier Lýkos.

"Mine" He growled.

I stood there, still frozen not knowing what to do or where to look as my eyes frantically tried to avert from him and the dead bodies surrounding me.

He walked slowly towards me with a grim smirk plastered on his face but that was a son enough wiped clean when a growl erupts from behind me, Caleb. You idiot...run!!!

Suddenly, all was dark as the sound of snarls and snapping teeth are all I heard as I slowly slipped away.

"Hayley..." I managed to whisper as the darkness secluded me in the cold air.
