Beep. Beep. Beep.
The heart monitor was regular now. Two figures seated themselves on opposite sides of the hospital bed, watching as the patient's chest slowly rose and fell in continuous motion. The sit was tense, for though all three were friends, the visitors could hardly stand a singly glimpse of each other.
"Why are you here?" The blonde boy to the right whispered as calmly as possible.
"I should be asking you the same. If not for you, she wouldn't be lying here so helplessly. She wouldn't be suffering because of your reckless behavior.you caused a dangerous and nearly fatal situation for our friend," the brunette boy responded quietly, but venomously.
The boy to the right was furious, but remained silent. If an argument were to occur between the two of them, he situation would only grow worse, and waking the girl could be an awful risk.
"I am reckless, but I don't think it's completely my fault."
The other boy glanced up with shock. "How could it not be your fault? It's completely your fault. Ou shouldn't have been messing around when I told you to wait with Lana. All you had to do, was wait."
"They told me I wasn't as good as then. They mocked me!"
"I don't care. They were drunk. And you didn't have to drink yourself insane to prove a stupid point and endanger her. She was hurt because of you. You could have refused but no! You cared more for your stupid pride," he hissed.
A knock at the door startled them both. "Boys? We would appreciate if you argued elsewhere and let the patient rest." Her eyes turned to the girl, who was slowly waking.
She sat up and rubbed her eyes. The boys looked at her with worry as she spoke their names softly, seeming confused and surprised at the same time. She yawned.
"Jay? Terrance? Where am I? What happened to my leg?"
Both boys jumped to her side, holding her small hands in their own.
"You're in a hosp--"
"She knows that, idiot! Something happened and the doctors are going to take good care if you? Okay? We'll visit you every day, so don't you worry, all right?" Jay interrupted.
Terrance frowned at the interruption. Jay only interrupted because he didn't believe that this guy had the right to speak after his drunken stupidity.
"Why am I here?"
"I'm surprised you don't remember," Jay sighed, a but relieved. "The other day? You were in a car accident. You made a heroic act and pushed Terrance out of the way of a car. You saved his life, but you broke a leg, and a couple ribs."
"Lana... I am SO sorry," Terrance apologized with wide, watery eyes. He could see her expression changing; she probably remembered now.
Lana turned to her friend. "I'm not angry. I'm glad you're safe," she whispered.
Jay sighed and frowned. Ah was too good to him. He always got away with things. Terrance was so irresponsible.
The blonde boy grinned as she ruffled his hair lightly. He held her hand happily.
"I'll come visit every day," he promised, receiving a nod of approval from Lana.
Secretly, Jay wished Lana hadn't saved Terrance. Secretly... Jay wished that Terrance was dead.
