Empress POV

"Girl, you better hurry up!" Kris Little's deep voice yells out from the classroom door.

His name is Little, but nothing about him is small. He is a 6'4 burly, beefed up giant who I estimate weighs around 180 pounds. Little has a complete beard while most boys are strugglin' to grow a few chin hairs. Did I mention that he is the star defensive back of Brook High School's football team?

Little tackles his opponents with ease on the football field, but he does not know how to tackle his homework. Last year, I was his math tutor. I can't say he has improved much. To be honest, he could probably be in the top 10 of our class, but he just doesn't give a damn since he is banking on getting a full ride and going to the NFL. His prerogative didn't bother me not one bit as long as his parents paid me every week.

Even though he has a mean mug that rivals Ice Cube's icy stare, he knows how to keep people laughin' and he has a big heart. He's cool people. His pockets stay on chubby, so he's always buyin' his friends Flamin' Hot Cheetos, Big Texas Cinnamon Rolls, and Fruit Punch Gatorades out of the school's vending machines. He even buys us Krispy Kreme and Starbucks at least once a week. Not to mention, he played ball with my big brother Trapp, so that is another reason why he's always nice to me.

I learned early on that the "lil sis pass" has its advantages when I first started high school. For instance, when I was a freshman, three years ago, the other 9th graders feared being picked on or wished they could sit at the lunch table with the popular kids. But, I had the "lil sis pass" which made me unquestionably cool with my brother's upperclassman friends. The "lil sis pass" is no doubt nepotism at its finest and I would be a fool to decline its benefits.

"Empress, please can I get it for $20?" Chante says as I close my locker.

"Girl bye! You asked for an A+ paper and that's exactly what this is," I say in an annoyed tone while dangling the research paper in front of her face.

Chante is gettin' on my nerves, but I really need the money for the electric bill. The past due notice came yesterday and all I need is forty more dollars to go along with the money I have already. I cannot afford to go any lower than my asking price. I hate to be without any electricity. It is such a terrible feeling to come home and find that nothin' works.

One time when I was younger, my family spent two whole weeks powerless and in pitch-black. I hated every minute. There was a whole bunch of card playin' and candle lightin' to see through the darkness. It felt like we were living in the days of Little House on the Prairie and I was little Laura Ingalls just writing away all my thoughts in a spiral notebook. I vowed to myself then I would never be without if I could help it.

Not to mention, I spent my valuable time finding the appropriate sources to support the claims in this paper. If Chante doesn't wanna buy it, I'm sure someone else will, but I need the money today. ASAP!
