Jason's P.O.V.
I grabbed a black shirt and the smartest pair of black jeans I owned. Coincidentally, my style was very similar to the kind of things Sylvie had picked out from the shops earlier.
As I walked into the guest bathroom, I couldn't help but think that we had a few things in common. Sure we were very different but at least that gave us something to talk about.
I turned on the water, letting it run for a moment before getting undressed and stepping into the shower.
I quickly washed my hair and body before stepping out again. I dried my hair slightly before wrapping the towel carefully around my waist.
I decided to shave to give my hair and everything chance to air dry.
Once I'd finished, I quickly got dressed and headed out of the guest room.
I decided to wait downstairs whilst Sylvie finished getting ready.
Surprisingly she didn't take long at all. A few minutes later, she came downstairs. I could smell something slightly different about her but I pushed it to the back of my thoughts for now.
She wore a cute flowing black dress that was slightly longer in the back, with black tights and black pumps. She looked stunning.
She wasn't wearing much makeup, she was pretty enough without it, but she wore enough to accentuate her eyes and lips.
Her beautiful eyes looked stunningly dark but they had a hopeful glitter in them and her lips were the colour of ripe cherries.
In that moment I couldn't look away. She's perfect in my eyes, and I'm determined to show her how much she means to me.Sylvie's P.O.V.
Once I'd finished in the shower, I wrapped the towel around myself and went over to the wardrobe to pick out what to wear. I didn't know who would be there but I knew that I wanted to make a good impression.
I looked through the clothes I had, trying to remember what Christy had said about them.
The items she'd told me to save for special times were hidden in the back of the wardrobe. Then I remembered one of the dresses that she'd told me to wear "if you're ever going to meet new people at a party" which coincidentally is exactly what was going to happen. It was long lace sleeves with a slight puffy skirt that stopped lower at the back.
I put it on with a pair of tights and black pumps before checking myself in the Mirror. I added the last touches to my outfit, my makeup and a necklace, before heading downstairs to find Jason.
His eyes were on me from the moment I reached the stairs.
There was a look in his eyes that I couldn't quite read but he looked amazed. He looked very smart in his black shirt and jeans. We'd match with colours at least.
"Sylvie, you look beautiful" he sighed as I walked towards him.
"Thank you, you look very handsome too." I smiled
We walked out to the car and set off towards the party. My nerves kicked in halfway through the drive. When we arrived Jason turned to me.
"Don't be afraid, I won't leave you alone unless I need to. No one here will harm you or they'll have me to answer to."
"Ok" I tried smiling but it must not have been convincing.
"Sylvie, remember I am the future Alpha. If they harm me or my Luna, they'll have the rest of the pack after them." His words settled my nerves a little as we got out and headed towards the house.
Jason took my hand as we walked through the front door.
"Do you remember Bradley from last night? It's his birthday." Jason told me as we looked around to give him his birthday present. I hadn't realised before but Jason had brought a small gift bag along.
"Jason!" I recognised the voice as Bradley came over to us. The two guys hugged each other briefly before he realised I was with him. "Bringing the same girl out? That's different for you," the comment confused me a little but Jason seemed to just brush it off.
"Bradley, meet Sylvie. Sylvie this is one of my Closest friends Bradley"
"Enchanted" Bradley smiled as he shook my hand.
"Sylvie's staying with me for a while, so I thought she might like to see how we have fun."
"I'm flattered" Bradley joked, before his tone turned serious "but there are a few people here that may not be too happy to see you two together so just be careful."
"Thanks for the heads up" Jason nodded, suddenly looking a little wary. He took my hand again and led me outside.
The garden was decorated beautifully. There were lanterns and banners hung up everywhere and a table of food at one end. Jason directed us towards a secluded part of the garden. There was a small water feature with a bench opposite.
Once we were sat down, he turned to me and I could see the fear in his eyes.
"There's something you need to know Sylvie, before anything else happens and before you meet anyone else." He looked so scared as he spoke, that I could almost feel it myself.
"What's wrong Jason?" I tried to keep the fear out of my own voice.
"Please know that it's not something I'm proud of. I thought it was good at the time, but I regret it so much now I've met you."
I couldn't think of what to say so I just stayed silent and nodded. I took his hands in mine as an attempt to encourage him.
"You wanted to know more about the kind of person I am, in all honesty you'd have hated who I was. I'm known here as a playboy. I've been with a lot of girls from the pack. If I could go back and change it now I would. But that's what Christy meant about her not being used to me introducing her to girls. Normally I only saw girls as a bit of fun. I'd never see the same one twice in a row. A few of them might turn up here today so I wanted to tell you myself. All of that will change now though. Now I've met you I want to devote myself to you. I'm sorry Sylvie, please don't hate me. I can understand if you do though."
I took a moment for my mind to process everything he'd just said. He was so good looking that I'd not expected him to be a complete saint. It was a question of whether I trusted him to change now.
I looked at his face and was surprised to see that he had tears in his eyes. I leaned over and hugged him tightly.
He didn't move at first, clearly not expecting this reaction.
"I don't care how you were before we met, I trust you to be faithful to me now. I want to spend time with you, I'm not about to reject you because of something bad you used to do."
"Thank you," He practically sobbed into my shoulder as he hugged me closer. It surprised me that such a strong looking man could be so scared of losing me, but it just made me like him even more.
"If you can look past other people's prejudices on my part, then I'd be an idiot to judge you on something that happened before we met. As long as you're clean?" I asked sarcastically, laughing.
He chuckled and replied, "don't worry, Christy made me get tested every time"
I leaned over and kissed his cheek, he brought his hand up to my cheek and pulled me back for a real kiss. This time was completely unlike any of the others. It was a strange mix of desperation and hope.
He was the first to pull away, "I have something for you, I was going to give it to you later but I thought it was only fitting now."
He tucked his hand into his jacket pocket and when he brought it out, there was the little wolf plush that I'd seen in the shop. He now had a purple ribbon around his neck that has something hanging from it.
"Thank you! I love him!"
"I have a small confession," he said grinning "he was made in the image of my wolf form."
"Really? But how did you get him?"
"My mother's friend runs the shop. She can also use telepathy so when I saw you liked the plush, I asked her to distract you so I could buy it."
I couldn't help but smile, it was funny that the thing I'd fallen in love with in the shop, was a replica of the person I was also falling for. I took a closer look at the ribbon around it's neck and found that it held a ring.
Jason smiled as he carefully undid the ribbon and unthreaded the ring.
"I told my mother a while ago that I wanted to give my mate a promise ring once I found her. She had one of her friends make one to the specifications of a psychic."
"A psychic? But they're not wolves?"
"Exactly Sylvie, our pack lives closely with various races. We've never truly been fighting them. The reason I didn't want to take my parents place and lead the fight was because they wanted me to find a way to unite the people. Up until I met you I didn't know how I could do it. But now I do. So please, I hope you will accept this ring as a promise for the fute. I promise to stay committed to you, my Luna."
He lifted up my left hand and placed it on my ring finger. He then placed a kiss onto the back of my hand before letting it fall again.
"Thank you Jason, it means a lot to me" I could feel myself beaming. "Should we return to the party now that everything's sorted?"
Smiling, he took my hand again and we headed out to join the crowds of people.Jason's P.O.V.
I felt like a large weight had been lifted from my shoulders. I was completely in shock that Sylvie hadn't reacted the way I expected. She really is an amazing person.
As we rejoined the rest of the party, I saw Christy had managed to come. She was still wearing her work uniform but at least she'd made it. I led Sylvie over to her, with the hopes of leaving the girls talking whilst I went to get some drinks.
"Hey, Christy you made it?"
"Do you think I'd miss my own boyfriend's birthday? I managed to finish early for the day."
I turned to Sylvie, "My cousin here and Bradley were high school sweethearts, they've been together since and still completely in love." I chuckled.
"That's so sweet!" Sylvie cooed which seemed to start a complete conversation about how nice a boyfriend Bradley was.
"Well I'm off to get us something to drink, do you want anything Christy?"
"Yes please, a beer for me."
I nodded and headed back towards the house, leaving Sylvie with my cousin as I knew she'd be safe with her.
I'd been visiting Bradley since I was 6 so I practically knew where everything was. I headed towards the kitchen where I found all the drinks already set out on the counter. I took two glasses, filling them with orange juice for myself and Sylvie. I preferred not to drink alcohol and I didn't want to assume that Sylvie did just in case. I was just looking for a beer that Christy liked when I sensed someone walk into the room. I could smell her perfume instantly and knew who it was. Before, I didn't mind the smell but now it was awful.
"Hey baby,"
I turned to face her. Cindy was clothed in her normal revealing way with a dress that barely covered anything.
"I'm not your baby any more" I practically growled at her. She clearly didn't take the hint as she came closer.
"Why didn't you come to my party, I missed you!" She pouted, whilst trying to look attractive. It just made me want to run away.
"It's over Cindy! I don't want you any more."
"Why not? Everyone wants me!"
Ugh modest isn't she? I thought to myself.
"I've found my mate, she's 100% better than you could ever be, and she's loyal too." I couldn't help my slight outburst as I felt like I had to put her in her place.
"You mean that poor creature outside? She won't make you happy. You'll be bored in a week and come crawling back like you always do." She giggled in a very annoying way before trying to push herself onto me. I wanted non of it and pushed her away on instinct.
Shock showed on her face as she clearly wasn't expecting my response.
When I spoke next, I used my wolf side too, as only an alpha can. It helps me use my authority when I need it as other wolves in my pack have no choice but to back down. I hate using it as I prefer them to do things by choice but in this situation, it was useful.
"I don't think you get it. I only want Sylvie now. I don't find you attractive anymore. So I'd appreciate it if you didn't touch me again." She backed down instantly. I didn't give her chance to even think about replying before grabbing the drinks and heading outside again.
My eyes found Sylvie instantly, Bradley and Christy were stood laughing with her. When Bradley looked over at me, Cindy must have been following behind me because he narrowed his eyes questioningly.
I just shook my head trying to show him that nothing had happened and his expression lightened.
I handed my cousin her drink once I'd reached them before also passing Sylvie hers.
"We were just telling Sylvie about the camping trips we used to take every summer." Bradley smiled,
"Oh dear" I chuckled sarcastically, they were some of my happiest memories. Sometimes a few bad things happened but it was mostly good. One particular memory sprang to mind. "If I remember correctly, that's when the two of you first got together!"
"Really?" Sylvie looked quite interested in the topic so I was happy to explain.
"Yep, they'd just started becoming aware of their feelings for each other. They weren't old enough to tell that they were mates and for most of the trip they were very awkward around each other."
"Until..." Bradley carried on "Jason here suggested a game of truth or dare on the second to last night."
"He dared Bradley here to kiss the person he liked in our group." Christy took over. "I was so scared that he'd pick someone else."
"But I only had eyes for Christy"
"And the rest of us all knew this. He was too scared to do anything at first but eventually he walked straight over and kissed her. The two of them spent the remaining time there, together and even slept in the same tent."
"It wasn't until a few years later that our full instincts kicked in and we realised that we were mates,"
"That's such a cute story! Almost like a fairytale, but can I ask, how come you didn't realise straight away that you were mates?" Sylvie asked, clearly confused. I keep forgetting that she doesn't know much about our world. I guess that's what living in hiding will do to you.
"Wolves aren't born with full control of their instincts and quite often you don't gain your wolf side until you're 16 maybe later." I explained.
"That explains so much" she giggled, "my parents never really explained anything to me. One day it was as if my wolf just turned up."
"So you're a wolf then?" Christy asked. "My senses couldn't quite make it out."
I could practically feel Sylvie's fear. I quickly tried to think of an excuse for her but to my surprise she soon spoke up.
