Danny Myers hated the water. It's the one thing that scares him more than anything. On land he's safe, but in the water, he's all alone. Danny's now twenty-three and has been living with his grandfather for the past thirteen years. Ever since his parents were killed by sharks on their family boat trip. Danny only survived because the sharks were to busy eating his parts, but he forever will have the scar that the shark left behind. A big bite mark that covers the left-hand side of his stomach. Even now, years later Danny wakes up screaming from night terrors. Danny swore from that day on he would go nowhere near the water.

He kept to that promise. The closest he has ever gotten to the water is at his work, which is a bar located near the beach, but Danny never goes past the bar to the beach. He started working here when he was eighteen, thanks to his grandfather who was a regular.

Today was one of the days that Danny was working and it was hot as it always was in Los Angelos. Danny is dressed in cargo shorts and a grey v neck on. He has his black sunglasses resting on top of his head as he helps his best friend, Nova. He has been working Nova for a long time and it was friendship right away for them. They both carry scars and they both know each other's past. It's what makes them close.

Danny is ignoring the tv as he fills up more cups. "Danny." Danny looks up as Nova hits the bar's counter. "Turn that up." Danny turns and turns the tv up.

"I'm here in Santa Monica with some breaking news about Hurricane David. It's been pounding the west coast of Mexico. Pushing it's way up the coast to the state of California. It seems to be driving a very dangerous surf."

"No kidding. Fin's out there." Nova says as Danny puts the beers on the counter for her.

"He'll be fine, Nova, go hand these out." Danny says.

"Danny's right. I wouldn't worry about Fin, I mean he's the best surfer I've ever seen." Danny's grandfather says as he sips his beer. "Except for me of course. In my prime." Just the talk of water makes Danny unnerved.

"When was that George? The Civil War?" Nova asks Danny's grandfather, causing Danny to snicker.

"Eh, I'm not that old-"

"You have a grandson the same age as me." Nova says.

"You know I got some moves, babe-"

"Hey!" Nova grabs George's hand. "What did I tell you? You can touch everything at this bar except for me." She says before spilling his beer.

"Hey!" George shouts. "Come on."

"Hey, watch it, Nova, I'm working here." Danny says, just missing the beer.

"Oopsies! Looks like you need another drink, Danny." Danny gives her a look as he washes down the bar. "Sorry."

"Yeah, a free one. One on the house. One that doesn't cost me any money." Danny chuckles as Nova gets George a beer.

"How come you never talk about that scar right there on your leg?" Danny pauses and glasses at Nova's leg.

"There's nothing to talk about. I cut myself shaving." Nova tells him. "Four bucks." She says as she puts the beer down.

"Four bucks? I thought it was on the house. You spilled the last one." Nova rolls her eyes and throws the towel at George.

"Perhaps the silver lining in this is that the storm has driven away the inflexs of sharks out of the area-"

"Shit." Danny curses as he drops the bottle he'd been holding, causing him to cut his hand.

"Danny, you okay?" George asks.
