"Yeah mum." I muttered into my cellphone as I balanced it between my shoulder and ear with difficulty. "I won't do anything stupid. Don't worry."

"And don't forget to-"

"To water the roses once every 5 days." I completed my mother's statement, sighing and shifting the phone to my other shoulder as I shifted the bag's strip. "I would never forget that. You know how much I love my roses. That's why I brought them with me."

"I know." My mother sighed on the other end. "Remember to always lock your doors before you go to sleep."

"Yeah, yeah I know." Despite the frustration, I couldn't help but to smile at my mum's catchphrase. It's not like some sort of human or creature is going to break in the middle of the night and kill me. Why would they want to do that anyway? After all, I'm an introvert so I don't think I have any enemies and... well any friends.

"And also remember to call every week. Love you Ivy."

"Love you too mum." I replied before ending the call.

"Ah, finally!" I said, smiling in eagerness as I stood in front of my apartment door.

I took a deep breath before glancing around the isolated neighbourhood; the silver moon was high in the sky giving off the only light, apart from the lampposts whose rays died inches from the dirty tungsten bulbs. I turned my attention back to my apartment door. It was the grey of unburnished silver, dull and ragged. Where there should have been some fancy matching handle was only a square shaft of dark cold metal. I closed my fingers around it and carefully twisted it; the rusty hinges of the old door squealed like fingernails on a dusty chalkboard.

After closing the creaky door, I dragged myself to the living. I reached for the light switch, but another hand was already there. Before I could let out a scream, the hand vanished into thin air.

"I must be hallucinating from lack of sleep." I reassured myself. I switched on the lights and dropped my heavy bag near the couch. I cautiously picked up my precious rose plant and placed it on the window sill which was right beside the shabby couch. I let out a heavy sigh as I looked at the clock.

"Mhm.. 11:36 a.m. I could watch some T.V before I sleep." I whispered to myself as I plopped on the couch and turned out the T.V. Not long after, my eyelids started to feel heavy as I drifted into deep sleep.

My eyes opened like two flashlight beams by a loud noise. The room was dark and dimly lit by the flickering light. I immediately jolted up; it was all quiet including the T.V which was turned off. I fished out my phone from my pocket and quickly checked the time. 4:36 a.m. All I could hear was the 'tick-tock' of the clock.

Ivy Rose Walker. You are now officially the most stupidest person in this whole wide world. You could have just checked the clock for the time. I think to myself. Abruptly, the 'tick-tock' got really loud and unusual; I focused my vision at the clock... it was going anti-clockwise. A chill ran down my spine as I apprehensively stared into the dark.

"Breathe Ivy. The clock is just broken. Nothing too bad." I reassured myself as i shifted my vision to the window. The blood drained from my face when I gazed at the window sill. The rose petals that were once supple flesh of red are now curled parchment stained with dried blood that break at the touch of a finger. I slowly walked towards the window sill. As I glanced up at the sky, glittering snowflakes fell soundlessly.

"How it snowing in the middle of July?"

I opened the window and inhaled the crispy, cool air. The branches of the trees bow with the heavy load of they are carrying. Snow! The thought of snow melted in to my head. I dashed towards the door with triumph. I was about to reach for the handle when I heard a voice behind me.

"Don't."

A haze of fear surrounded me as I stood rooted to the ground.

I might be hallucinating again. I think to myself.

I could just manage to start breathing normal when I heard a thump only a few feet from me, then I stopped breathing all together. The silence was unbearable.

I started to hear breathing, I covered my mouth so fast no sound emerged at all. Why wouldn't it go, what did it want with me? A tear ran down my face as I realized there was no escape, it was next to me.

She exhaled one last time in submission and acceptance of her fate, no sound was ever heard by her again, silence had fallen.
