Into the Deep

I had always been scared of the deep.

I always felt like it would swallow me whole

And never spit me out again.

It would grab me with its cold arms,

Pull me down and keep all of my light to itself.

After a while my light would go out like a fire,

Drowned in the dark blue, almost black tides,

Only to be replaced by the next flame

Foolish enough to challenge the deep.

The foolish flame would merely notice that it was too late

To go back to the light

And accept its fate.

But I had always been fascinated by the deep as well.

I wondered

What could linger down there?

Who were the creatures wandering the abyss?

How did it feel

To have all of your light taken away?

How did it feel

To become one with the eternal shadow?

And I made a decision.

I made the decision

To face my fears

Embrace my desires

And delve into the deep.

The light had made its decision,

Chosen its fate.

It jumped off the edge,

Soared into the abyss itself.

Many beautiful creatures welcomed the light

Welcoming it with their luscious colours

And sharing the brilliance of their own.

They danced with the light

Held it tight to let go of it

Then kept playing with their well-wishers.

The light was amazed

At all of the creatures glowing of their warmth,

Filled with love and harmony.

So deep down in the abyss.

Why had I been afraid?

Why had I doubted magnificent creatures living in the abyss?

Why had I not known of their beautiful shimmer?

The deep isn't black like I had thought

It is filled with a gorgeous blue!

A blue as dark as the night sky,

With creatures for its stars!
