I'm running from my life. From the guards. The guards of what? Me. But why are they guarding me? I have no idea. I have lived in that place for as long as I can remember. Alone. I have no name. No family. No friends. No memories of any of these things. Yet I know what they are. I have never come in contact with another human being yet I can still speak. My first memories are of one year ago. But I am 15. Something has happened to me, but I don't know what. The answers though, lie outside of the gate. I am sure of it.
For as long as I can remember I have lived in a mansion which I have named the canopy, Because it rests high in the trees of my little prison. It is a nice home but about a month ago I decided that it was time to explore. I spent the morning going from tree to tree picking fruits and gathering other necessities and by that afternoon I was off. I didn't have a plan on where to go so I decided to wing it and go as far as I could. My watch said it was around 1 in the afternoon when I left the canopy.
I spent the rest of the day following the little creek that ran near my house. That way I could find my way back easily. And while I was exploring I was stunned by the beauty of the forest around me. I heard birds chirping, the wind rustling in the leaves, the creek bubbling along beside me, and the crunch of gravel with every step I took. I saw glimpses of clear blue sky shining through holes in the canopy, and saw squirrels scurrying about. I picked some of the most beautiful flowers and took in their sweet scent. I ate delicious peaches, oranges, and apples. By the end of the day I had decided never to leave that wonderful place, and fell asleep under a gigantic oak tree as the forest slowly went to sleep.
The next day I explored even further into the forest to uncover more wonders and I discovered a magnificent waterfall. But I did not go near it. In fact I couldn't go near it. Because there right in between me and that waterfall was a giant chain link fence. At least 20 feet tall, with guard towers every 50 feet or so. I cursed the thing and walked up to the fence. I screamed at the guard in the tower near me and asked what he was guarding. I saw him chuckle to himself before pulling out a shotgun and pointing it down at me. "Why," he said. "I'm guarding you of course"
I stared blankly at him not understanding what he just told me. "W-what?" I asked "I am guarding you." Was his reply. "You are a prisoner and it would be wise of you to go back to your cell before I blow your head off with this here shotgun." I started to slowly back away and then I ran when I heard him click the safety off of the gun.
I ran away from him. The forest was no longer beautiful. Now danger lurked in the shadows, evil eyes watched me from behind every tree, and a monster waited just around every turn. Two hours into my terrifying run i collapsed from exhaustion. I spent the night cowering under a tree waiting for sleep to embrace me in its warm arms and give me peace. But no, sleep was not to be mine. The next day I arrived back at the canopy and searched my home for hidden cameras. I found some in and around the canopy which were quickly disabled and was relieved to see that there were no cameras further than 50 feet away from the canopy.
I locked myself in the house for the next month and planned my escape. I would pick about a weeks worth of food and bring two containers for water that could be refilled at the creek. I would exit the forest about a quarter mile west of where I had met the guard and run up right under a guard tower. Prefferably one with bushes at the base so I would be shielded from the sight of nearby guard towers as well as the one right above me. Then I would start digging a hole under the fence and make a break for it.
