I heard my alarm go off groaning I reached over grabbing my phone and sliding the awake button. The alarm went silent and I begrudgingly got out of my warm bed. My room wasn't very big only containing the necessary items like a bed, dresser, and bathroom.
I walked into the bathroom, my long blonde hair a rats nest and my dark blue eyes groggy. I got into the shower thankful I didn't have any siblings to bother me or take all the hot water. I was an only child my dad didn't stick around so its just me and my mother.
I did my makeup and put my hair up into a messy bun. I then slid on jeans and a sweatshirt since it was fall. I ran down the stairs grabbing a bagel my mom sitting at the counter drinking coffee. She gave me a small smile and I was going to ask what was wrong but Brie's horn was blaring from outside. Meaning I was running late I slid on my shoes and out the door I went.
I had my license but my mother and I shared a car and since her working was more important than my school I was forced to get rides from Brie. Don't get me wrong I love Brie with all my heart we've been friends since forever but she gets on my nerves a lot. I sat quietly looking out the window wondering why my mother was so upset, its been 10 years since he left when I was 8. So its doubtful that's what was bugging her.
"Whats wrong your never this quiet." I heard Brie say worriedly. I took in a deep breath turning to give her a small smile. She had her long black hair curled her hazel eyes breaking down any lies I held in my own eyes. She was wearing a red dress that was probably breaking a few dress code rules. Brie always liked turning heads and teasing guys.
"Just a little nervous I guess senior year soon everyone will be off to college and Ill probably be stuck in this shit hole Alna." Brie giggled at my exclamation of this town being crap.
"Don't worry Skye we are going to get an apartment together in the city and we can figure stuff out from there. We just have to survive this year. Plus your to smart to not get into a college." I smiled but it didn't reach my eyes or my heart. I felt bad thinking about leaving my mother like how my dad left us. But at the same time I shouldn't have to live my life based off his choices. Brie pulled into a parking spot and we both got out slinging our backpacks over one shoulder.
We went into the office grabbing our schedules to compare courses.
"We have calc together, chem, ap lit, and sociology." I smiled thankful all my hard classes would be with Brie. But that meant that my statistcs, art, and study hall were going to be all on my own. We looked at the teachers I was excited to have Maria Anderson be my math teacher but her name wasn't on the sheet.
"Why isn't Maria on here? That's the only reason I took an extra math class." A small panic washed over me and Brie shrugged.
"Maybe Steinhardt will be just as nice." Brie said trying to be optimistic. We headed down the halls to our first class together. Sitting down we awaited Miss Steinhardt. Kids whispering about the only gossip there was, which was Steinhardt. Then everyone got quiet I looked up to see what had happened and my jaw almost dropped.
"Holy shit." I heard Brie whisper. And she was right,
