Chapter Three: Link's POV

Johanna smiles as Luke kisses her on the cheek. "That costume looks amazing on you, honey," he says. He talks in a loud, irritating voice.

"Thank you, Luke! Yours doesn't look so bad either."

Well, the costume is great, just not on Luke. The tunic barely covers half of his long, lanky legs, and his blonde wig is too small, revealing his unkempt brown hair.

I keep telling myself that they'll break up one day. It's bound to happen. Luke is a total jerk. Maybe one day Johanna will finally notice his cocky attitude and dump him. And then she'll confess her undying love to me during a romantic picnic and we'll date for years and years until we're old enough to get married.

"So..." Johanna looks at Luke. She has a stern expression on her face that I've never seen before. "Have you been practicing your lines?"

Luke rolls his eyes. "Nah. But I'll be good. I've got a script right in my pocket. No one will even see me looking at it." He looked at Johanna smugly.

"Luke!" Johanna stomps her foot, rocking the stage back and forth. "I told you to study them! Now you're gonna make you and I both look like idiots!"

"Yikes." Alan whispers. "I've never seen Johanna mad."

"Alright, alright. I'll-" Alan and I catch his eye. "Hey, you two! What's with the sheets? You guys ghosts or something?" He laughs, as if he said something clever.

"Just ignore him," I whisper to Alan. "We'll never hear the end of it if he finds out-"

"We're rocks!" Alan blurts out.

Luke goes into hysterics. "Rocks? Rocks. That's a riot." He says, in between fits of laughter. He walks in our direction.

"Alan! Are you not afraid of him at all?"

"I'm not afraid of anything in Hyrule!" He boasted. I wish to tell him otherwise, but I'm too busy eyeballing Luke, who is getting closer by the second. When he's in arm's reach of us, he jabs me in the shoulder, sending me sprawling on the stage. He chuckles, and proceeds to talk to another group of his "friends".

"Yikes," Alan pulls me back on my feet. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm...I'm fine. It's just-"

"Attention! Boys and girls! Actors and actresses! The reanactment is about to start! Everyone that is not in the first scene backstage!" I hear Mrs. Buncombe whisper. Alan gives me a nervous look and disappears behind the curtains. Before I join him, I scan the town square, which is fully decorated now. Vendors have set up tents, selling food or peculiar handicrafts. A group of children stand by a popcorn machine, gazing longingly at the bursting kernels. A band is rehearsing quietly to our right.

This is Zelfari at its finest. If only it was like this all the time.

I hurry offstage when I spot Mayor Dotour coming on to give his speech that everyone has heard a million times already. It's the exact same every year. Him and all the rest of us know it by heart.

"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen!" A few tardy citizens hear him start and rush into their seats. "As you all probably know, today is the 75th annual Ceremony of the Hero's Triumph." That's what they call it. Sounds pretty fancy, although it's a mouthful. "Thank you all for coming out to help us celebrate. But before the festivities begin, I would like to explain why I am so proud of this town." He starts rambling on the history of Zelfari. How Hyrule Castle and Castle Town had been torn down and rebuilt, how Zelfari had been built where Castle Town stood, and how the Temple of Time still remains in our town because-

"It's not the best idea moving a seal that's holding the world's greatest evil." That line always makes the audience chuckle, no matter how many times they've heard it.

The fact that the Temple of Time is in Zelfari scares away a few tourists, but to be honest, it doesn't change our lifestyle at all. A thick, monster-infested forest has grown over the temple, cutting it off from anyone that values their life. The enterance to the forest is near the outskirts of town, with no houses or shops in its proximitiy.

Mayor Doutour claps his hands together, bringing me back to my senses. "So, without further ado, let the reanactment begin!"
