"Nathanial Matthew Penningway!!! Get your ass down here with the last of your boxes. The truck leaves here in two minutes!!" My mom yells. We live in a small apartment in New York City until my mom started dating Thomas. My moms new boyfriend is making us move to his house out in Texas.
I found a Polaroid picture of my best friend, Theo, who I would be leaving. I put the picture in my clear iPhone case, take one last glance at the small two bedroom apartment where I was raised, and said goodbye.
When I get downstairs I load my last of three boxes onto the truck. Our rented U-Haul truck was one we hooked up to the back of Thomas' pickuptruck. In the back of the truck I see Thomas' dog Peter. Peter is a Golden Retriever and the sweetest dog ever. I hear the U-Haul truck close and the latch click and I know it's time to go. "You weren't really going to leave without saying goodbye? Were you?" It's Theo! "Hell nah man! I'll be back in no time. Just you wait, I'm going to get all the ladies down in Texas." "Oh yeah! Sure you are. Just like you got them here?" He said jokingly. Truth is I've never been with a girl. I have no experience with anyone. "Hey man- Just have fun. It's your senior year. Make some friends down in Texas, but don't replace me! Alright. Bye man."
It's 3 am when we arrive in Texas. The drive through wasn't that bad seen as I slept through most of it. We pull up to the house and it is huge. It's supposed to be for two families to live there but it's just the three of us. I'm startled when Thomas tells me I can pick whatever room I want because most of them are empty.
I walk inside and start checking out the house. I walk into one room and look out the window. I was baffled to see a boy there in his room strumming out chords on a guitar. His window was open so I could hear. Before long he looks up and noticed me staring. I duck out of sight hoping he didn't see me for too long. "Thomas! I found the room I want!"
