OKOYE'S POV
I prepared myself as best as I could for my dinner with King T'Challa. I was not sure on what to wear for this occasion, so I reached out to Shuri, his younger sister.
Shuri said,"Okoye, try on this one. It'll bring out your eyes more."I immediately turned the dress away and replied,"No, thank you. What's wrong with what I am wearing now?"
Shuri argued that I had asked for her help, which I did, but why must I change my whole look for this dinner?
After two minutes of complete silence, I changed into the dress that Shuri gave to me.
Once I saw myself in the mirror, I asked Shuri,"Why does it feel so tight?"
Shuri chuckled and answered,"It's supposed to fit that way. Well, this dress is. Plus, it makes you look good. If my brother doesn't like it, then you have my permission to take him down."
I laughed and smiled at Shuri, then King T'Challa walked in the room. He held flowers in his hands, but they were not ones I had seen before. They were quite beautiful.
King T'Challa smiled at me and said,"Okoye, you look..different, but in a good way. You look beautiful."I bowed to King T'Challa and thanked him.
He handed me the flowers and King T'Challa asked Shuri,"You're not coming, are you?"
Shuri rolled her eyes and said,"Yes, I am coming. Is that a problem?"
King T'Challa said,"Yes. That would be a huge problem. I don't want you on Okoye and I's date."
Shuri just narrowed her eyes at King T'Challa, and I pulled King T'Challa out of the room.
He said,"Sorry, Okoye. You know how Shuri and I can be. Are you ready for dinner?"
I nodded and went to open the door for King T'Challa, but he held up his hand.
He chuckled and said,"I'm breaking that habit right now. You're just with me tonight, so I should be opening the door for you. Here."
King T'Challa opened the door and I walked through, but it felt really foreign to me. Not normal, because it was always the other way around.
King T'Challa smiled at my facial expression and led me into one of the separate dining areas in the kingdom.King T'Challa pulled out a chair for me and I sat down in it, pulling the bottom of my dress back down. It kept coming up, which was very irritating.
King T'Challa smiled and asked me,"Is there something you wanted to eat in particular?"
I shook my head and politely said,"Whatever you have is fine with me, my king."
He nodded, and it did not take long for the food to come out.
King T'Challa scooted his chair closer to mine and I asked him,"Is everything all right?"
He looked me in the eyes and said,"Everything's fine. You're just..very beautiful."
I smiled looking down and felt King T'Challa's hand on my face. On instinct, I immediately grabbed it and flipped him on to the table.
King T'Challa groaned, and I immediately apologized.
Once he got back in his seat, he said,"It's..It's fine. I shouldn't have touched your face without asking. I'm sorry, Okoye."
King T'Challa sighed and I helped him clean off his shirt. After everything was off of it, I slowly grabbed his hand.
King T'Challa looked down at our hands and smiled, then back at me.I smiled back at him and said,"It was my fault. I'm apologizing for what I did. Forgive me?"
King T'Challa nodded and leaned in slowly. We hadn't really eaten any of the dinner yet, but I was enjoying this date or dinner.
I leaned in, too, before King T'Challa's lips met my own. I kissed him back and closed my eyes, savoring the moment. When King T'Challa pulled away, I smiled, and he rested his forehead against my own.He said,"Okoye, that was great. You uh didn't regret that kiss, did you?"
I smirked and pulled him back in mumbling,"Of course not, my king. Of course not."
