My friends lingered in the doorway of the entrance, away from the crowd. The party had become busier as the night trailed on, the room barely containing the amount of intoxicated teenagers. I clasped the drink in my hand tighter, noticing a dark figure of a man standing in the corner of the room. He stood staring at me like a hawk watches it's prey, my pulse could be heard in my ears, I felt my mouth grow dry, my feet shuffled in uneasiness under the mans' gaze. I looked at my drink and took a sip, attempting to loosen my concern. My eyes trailed to the corner again, the tall figured man just a memory. I frowned and shook it off.
My attention immediately floated toward my name being called by one of my friends. I couldn't tell which one, the flashing lights and street lights only allowed their silhouette to appear. Cup in hand I drifted through the crowd being knocked every now and then, moving towards the doorway.
"Hey Em, it's late I think we're going to leave"
Drew's face searched mine, looking for an answer, I couldn't stop thinking about the dark focus I knew was trained to my face. I blinked and looked at her nodding hoping to expose a look of satisfaction. I watched as her figure disappeared into the safety of the taxi. I sighed and took another big gulp of my drink washing it down. It was then I noticed a rather attractive male emerging from the inebriated crowd, his smile lit up his face, green eyes sparkling at me. A shy smile crept across my face as he began to make his way over. Suddenly fear struck me as the familiar black silhouette became visible, I had no time to respond as the cup I held, dropping and spilling to the floor.
A familiar shiver tracing down my spine. I looked to the male who had intently stopped a few inches in front of me. I had noticed my drink had spilt all over his jeans. I frowned and scrutinised him.
"Uh, I got to go" I nervously bit my lip bypassing the male.
Uneasiness shivered in my skin as I proceeded through the crowd, not daring to look at the somber figure. As soon as I stepped out the door, the wind became stronger and the street lights seemed to dim. The streets were abandoned and quiet. I slid my phone from my back pocket.
"Great no service" I spoke to myself in a frustrated manner.
The music and voices of alcohol ridden teenagers faded as I walked along the deserted street. The piercing eyes of the dark figure etched into my brain. The wind blew colder and it was then, I knew I was not alone. I looked back to see the familiar figure trailing behind me. My breathing became heavier as my pace quickened. Again I checked my phone, still no service. I felt the presence near and I didn't dare look back. My pace quickened and I found myself in what seemed to be a chase, what did this man want?
I ran as fast as I could, turning sharp corners and dodging street lamps. Just as I thought everything was going to be okay, I hit a dead end. I hungrily started looking around for an escape, none in sight. I turned around and pressed my back against the hard brick wall as the figure neared. Only about 10 meters away, he stopped and flicked open a knife. I panicked.
"HEELPP!" I found myself in a desperate position, crying out for anyone to hear.
But I only discovered my actions had infuriated the figure as it charged towards me, as it neared I noticed the figure differentiated from a human in many ways. The strangest, it was translucent. I breathed in heavily before the figure continued its pace, knife held stiff in front, directly at me. I was just about to shut my eyes when a massive gust of wind hit me just as the figure disintegrated into me upon contact, winding me of air completely.
I coughed and fell to my knees gasping for air, trying to comprehend what just happened. I looked around, the streets deserted and silent. I got to my feet, staggering and breathing heavily. I took a couple of steps when I felt an excruciating pain in the bottom of my stomach. I looked down, fear exploring my eyes as red blood stained my blouse. I immediately pulled out my phone, holding my stomach doubled over in pain as my phone hit one bar. I dialed in 000 just as everything starting moving in slow motion and my breathing took over everything. I fell to my knees, everything going black as my phone slipped away from my loose grip. The last thing I saw was red and blue lights flickering and the echo of the sirens ringing in my ears before fading into nothing.
