Percy remembers the day he met Duke. Duke had been the new kid at his middle school. The first day of sixth grade, Percy realized he would have to become friends with this boy and fast. He didn't know what it was about the boy, but Percy felt drawn to him, and he had never felt like this to another person before, let alone a boy. Percy knew what this was, and he was confused, because he never knew that boys could get crushes on other boys. His mom had been telling him about crushes just last year, and the feelings she described were exactly what he was feeling now. He had butterflies all around his stomach, and he was getting a little sweaty just thinking about introducing himself to that boy.

He decided he was gonna go up to him during lunch to try and introduce himself, but when he got there he almost got cold feet. There was a group of fifth and sixth graders surrounding the new oddity and he knew what that could feel like. When he had gotten there two years before, he had been introduced to many new kids who all seemingly wanted to be his friend. Though, he knew that if the boy didn't do something impressive then all of those 'nice' kids would turn on you faster than you could ask why.

Percy had been the new kid, but he was also unbearingly shy two years ago. He had since gotten much better, but all of his practice was seemingly coming to a halt when he realized that he couldn't go up to this boy at school and talk to him unless all of those people dispersed quickly. Percy then decided that he was gonna wait to talk to the boy until all of those people finally left him alone.

.

Low and behold, Percy had waited a very long time. It was not until half way through his eighth grade year that he saw the boy without other children around him. He was sitting on the steps with a seemingly discarded hallpass next to him, and he lookd incredibly tired. Percy didn't want to be awkard so when he got next to the boy he took a seat next to him.

"H-hi." Percy stuttered out. Oh no, Percy though, now he's gonna think i have a problem. "Hello!" said the other boy, whose name Percy still didn't know (though he later camr to find out). Percy thought the greeting sounded much to cheerful considering the boy looked like he might actually be at a serios risk of passing out. The boy was slowly slumping over, and Percy then did something he never thought he would do.

He grabbed the boys hand, "Follow me." he said. The boy stared at the boys hand in confusion before shrugging and grabbing ahold of it. Percy was leading the boy to a place he had never shown anyone before. Under the small drama stage, there was a tiny room, hidden behind the discarded props from when the school had put on a cheesy 'Romeo and Juliet' production. The room had never been seen by anyone else (As far as Percy could tell, because nothing had ever changed positions), and Percy over the years had a small collection of stolen furniture. The drama team never even knew it was gona, because no one ever questioned it. He had a small couch he had aquired a few days after he met Percy during sixth grade year, and that is where he led them.

Sitting down on the couch, Percy told the boy, "Take a nap. You look like you really need it."

And against the other boys better judgement, he took that nap. PErcy styed right there next to the boy the entire time, and even when school let out he stayed with the boy. Percy had already told his mom he was staying after for ecology club, though he actually stayed in here every day after school. Percy knew that the boy had baseball practice after school, but he really did not want to bother the poor boy. If the guy had gone onto the field, he surely would've fallen asleep at second base.

At around 4:00p.m. the boy finally woke up. Even with the groggy expression on his face, he looked much better than when Percy had taken him down here. The boy didn't have nearly bags that were nearly as bad as a few hours ago, and Percy was glad he could help (though he had to show his secret space to someone else, he was glad it was his crush).

Taking a breath in, he heard the boy ask, "Where am I?" It looked especially adorable to Percy, which was kind of weird considering the lanky thirteen year old was almost four inches taller than him, and definitely had just as much muscle as any other thirteen year old. Adorable didn't seem like the proper word to describe him, but Percy didn't care. The tall boy was simply the cutest. Percy took a moment to register the question but after he did, he had no idea what to say. "Uhm, y-you're kind of in my secret room." said Percy.

"And Where might that be?" The older boy asked then, kind of smirking. Percy blushed, but none the less, he responded. "It's under the stage in the auditorium."

The older boy looked confused. Percy could understand why, considering almost no one knew about the room, except maybe the oldest janitor. Percy didn't often make it a happen to invite people here, but e had to make an exception in this case. "You are welcome to c-come here w-whenever you want. But please, please don't tell anyone!"

"I wouldn't ever tell anyone about this, I'm sorry I kind of invaded this space for you." The boy said, actually looking a little bashful. Percy thought he might be slightly hallucinating, but he saw the boy blushing. Percy smiled gently, but nonetheless, he said," T-thank you. But I'm serious..." And then he trailed off," You are welcome to come here whenever you want."

With a slight wink, the boy thanked Percy and then left the room, and Percy couldn't help but feeling disappointed. With a sigh, he called his mom and told him that she could come and pick him up early. The 'ecology club' let out early, he said, and then he began to pack up his stuff.

.

When Percy got home, he couldn't help but think. Percy wondered if he would ever see the boy in the small room again, and he wondered if the boy would even talk to him in the hall. Percy really hoped so, but he had no idea what to think about what would happen when he went to school tomorrow.
