Newt pushed himself to his feet and took off running, his limp almost unnoticeable in that moment. He followed the shrieks of the Griever and the gunshots, knowing that was where he was going to find Jade. He rounded a corner and stopped.
In the middle of the corridor was a dead Griever. Standing in front of it, was Jade. Her face was smeared with blood and grime, but there was a look of satisfaction and determination in her eyes, though her expression showed fear. Her skin was torn on her abdomen, where the Griever's blade had hit her. Thankfully, she hadn't been stung. Her gun was held limply at her side, as she stared at her work. She looked up when the boys came around the corner though.
"I did it," she whispered softly, her voice echoing around the Maze.
Newt stood, shocked, as she walked over to him. She hugged him, snapping him out of his trance. The boys looked her over for any life threatening injuries. Although the gash on her abdomen was bad, she wasn't in any immediate danger. They hadn't realized how long they had been running until they saw the sun starting to peek over the walls. They went back, got Alby, and began to walk back to the Glade.
Jade started to feel lightheaded and Newt went to walk next to her. After ten minutes, she collapsed. Newt picked her up and rushed her off to the Glade, the two boys following as fast as they could. The doors were just starting to open when they entered the last corridor.
There were boys standing there, waiting for them to come in. They were surprised and shocked that they were alive, but happy. Newt quickly carried Jade over the edge of the Maze, looking for Clint and Jeff.
When the two of them made their way to the front, Newt started to speak.
"She's injured. We need to get her healed before she loses to much blood," Newt said.
The two Med-Jacks guide him to the building that was their own. Soon after, Alby was brought in and strapped to a bed. Minho and Thomas were being patched up by the younger Med-Jacks, who were just there to help out in that moment. Clint and Jeff attended to Jade, while Newt stood in the corner, refusing to move. When Jade was finally healed up, Clint turned to Newt.
"Now, are you injured?" he asked.
Newt shook his head, not feeling any pain except in his ankle.
"His ankle started to hurt out there," Minho called out from the other room.
Newt rolled his eyes as Clint approached him.
"Alright, sit," Clint ordered.
Newt didn't really want to, but he did so anyway. He let the two Med-Jacks look at his ankle, which was throbbing.
"You sprained it while running. You'll have to stay off your feet for a day or two. But don't worry, you can stay here with your girlfriend," Clint teased gently.
Newt glared at him only to get a smirk in return. The two Med-Jacks left to check in on Alby, Minho, and Thomas, to see if there was any major damage done to them. While they were gone, Newt limped over to Jade's bedside.
He stood next to her before grabbing a chair to sit down. He stayed by her side for three days before she woke up.
