My father limped slowly limped towards the car window.Blood trickled from his eyes and rotting flesh swung from his black teeth. His ears were missing and skin was sickly grey. Veins traveled up his neck and jaw, leading to the mouth.Quickly, I rolled up the window and slid to the other side of the car. It reached the window and began to thrash the glass and moan loudly. Cracks began to take root in the tinted sheild. Soon the window would be shards inside the car. Unless i did something. I unsheathed my pistol and aimed at the window where the creature that used to be my father lingered. Ready to shoot. He saw the gun and stopped crashing at the window which had already caved into the car. It placed its bloody forehead on the broken pieces of glass that used to be a window. He made a low groan and made the car vibrate like a bass guitar. I stared at him experiencing fear and sadness at the same time. He opened its eyes wide and screamed like an injured animal. Scared, desperate, lonely... His eyes... My father's strong, brown eyes...were gone. I began to shed tears and adrenaline roared throughout my system. My father again placed his forehead on the glass and growled softly. Tears began to form on my eye and threatened to run over.
"Never say goodbye son, goodbye means forever...", he'd always say.
Tears continued to drain. Each drop stung and burned as they fell over the lashes and rolled down my face. I couldn't breathe and began to cough between struggled breaths. My finger trembled over the trigger, scraping over the hard lever.
"Goodbye.", I choked.
Hands shaking , I breathed in and out, slowly taking control of my body once again. My finger relaxed and pressed against the metallic lever. The gun fired through the remaining glass and his head. Blood splattered on my chest, staining my already dirty and tattered shirt. His body slid down and onto the asphalt of the abandoned highway. My body was frozen; ready to shoot like before. My were eyes stuck open. They began to sting as tears flooded my face. My hands slapped immediatly to my face, gun in hand. I couldn't breathe. My lungs cringed for air, grasping onto life. The cold metal pressed against my face and the smooth ridges of the chamber felt like a stranger, as if I hadn't ever touched it before. A virgin to the bullet. Why did it have to come to this?!? I can't do this anymore, no,no,no,no,no.... Please, no more... I pulled the weapon away from my face, and stared at it in my blood splattered palms. My brown skin now darkened and masked by dirt and more blood. Blood. Blood. Blood. Can this be what life is now? Just death...
The sky began to combine with colors of warmth. Pink and orange shifted above the stream-like clouds as the sun sunk into the horizon. A soft breeze came through the shattered window and dried the tears from my cheeks and eyes. The old car's seats felt soft and welcoming, but I knew I couldn't stay there, more would just follow the sound of the gunshot. Damn, just when I thought I didn't have to camp in the woods again. I adjusted my backpack on my shoulders and slowly scooted my way out of the car. As I got out, I saw his body. It... He laid on the passenger door, body lifeless. His army jacket had blood all over it, dotted and speckled. I took it off of him and stared at it. His name badge was still sewn in the breast of the jacket: "Cross". It brought back so many good times, but I couldn't linger on it for long. I then searched for his ring and found the sterling silver stained pink and wet with blood. Tears began to form under my eyes again. I grasped the ring in my hand. "I won't lose you again. You or Mom." I closed his eyes and walked down the abandoned highway.
