Beyond The Ridge

Chapter 4

His eyes switch from his normal blue-green to one eye being vibrant yellow and green and the other vibrant blue and yellow.
Octave tells me in my mind "He's a shifter!"
As soon as I hear those words my heart starts to beat fast. I thought I was the only one.
That explains why he caught me so fast. He can shift into numerous animals just like me.
Then I realise I'm still laying on the ground covered in my blood.
He gives me a curious look once again and asks me "Are you a shifter?"
I reply bluntly with "Maybe."
He just looks at me for a minute with no emotion.
When I try to stand I get dizzy for a second. Probably because of blood loss. Preston catches me before I could fall. When he stands me up and balances me he ends up pulling me up against him.
Octave gets all excited due to his aroma. He smells like chocolate Cosmo flower. It's so soothing. It calmed me down, but now I felt kinda awkward just leaning onto him.
Once I came to my senses I jolted away from him. When I looked at him he just sighed. Like he is sad that I left his embrace.
I clear my throat and shift to a White mink with a black tail. I sprint clumsily up a tree and onto a branch waiting for him to leave, but instead of leaving he shifts into an amur leopard. Just like his tattoo. He also climbs the tree and fluently lays down on a big branch across from me.
We just stay there staring at each other waiting for the other one to blink. It goes on for five minutes til I give in and just blink.
Then I jump down and shift at the same time landing in human form. I start to walk off, but before I can he jumps down and shouts "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to shoot you. I just have never really seen a girl shifter before. They are quite rare."
I stop walking away and turn around. He says to me with a caring and respectful tone "I honestly didn't mean to. Please forgive me. We belong together."
I say back "What do you mean we belong together? We just met."
Then he replies back in a confused voice "What do you mean you don't know? Don't you feel the connection? We trust each other and feel like we've known each other for years. We have some kind of unbreakable bond. Just use your senses and feel it. Don't think about it because it just comes naturally. We belong together. Made for each other."
I just ignore him thinking he's crazy and walk off. And instead of making it 10ft this time I make it about 5ft when I run into a tree. Except when I look up it's Preston's hard chest.
"Preston, can you move? Your built like a tree. So just carry on your merry little way, and leave me be. I need to get somewhere before midnight." I say without giving any hint of where I'm going, other than I have to be there by midnight.
He doesn't leave just stays there and says "Just do what I said and I'll leave you alone. I mean you no harm. I come in peace." While he says he comes in peace he does the sign with his hand to add a little humor so I don't feel awkward.
Octave forces me to the back of my mind. She does exactly what he says " feel don't think". Like he said I can feel some kind of unbreakable bond. It feels like when I'm with him I can achieve anything.
Octave let's me back in control. I look up at him and say "I can feel it, but why does it matter if were made for each other. If you don't mind I have to be some where. I did your little thing with the feeling and not thinking so do as you said and leave me alone." I say in disbelief. He's probably gone a little crazy.
When he moves to the side I just give a nod of thanks and move on my way to the glowing pond.
