"Again" Dean commanded. We currently doing combat training and it ended with my knife at his neck. "Guys, we've got to get on the road" Sam said. We packed our things and started driving.
"You okay?" I heard Dean asked. "Yeah, I'm fine" Sam replied, I'm just going to be the innocent little sister that I am and listen in. "Another nightmare?" Sam cleared his throat to Dean's question. "Want to drive for a while?" Dean asked which almost made me blow my cover. Dean is so protective of his ''baby'', I think he needs help. "In your whole life, you never once asked me that." Sam said, proving me right. "Just thought you might want to. Never mind." "Look, man, you're worried about me. I get it, and thank you, but i'm perfectly okay." "mm-hmm". "All right. Where are we?" Sam asked while I heard the rustling of papers. "We are just outside of of grand junction." Dean said and Sam took a deep breath. "You know what? Maybe we shouldn't have left Stanford so soon." "Sam, we dug around there for a week. We came up with nothing. If you want to find the thing that killed Jessica..." Dean trailed off. "Got to find dad first" Sam finished. "Dad disappearing, And this thing showing up again after 22 years? It's no coincidence. Dad will have answers. He'll know what to do." Dean said. "It's weird, man. These coordinates he left us, this black water ridge..." Sam started "What about it?" Dean asked. "There's nothing there. It's just woods... Why is he sending us to the middle of nowhere?". Damn Sam, thanks for making me feel better.
We were in a ranger station. "So black water ridge is pretty remote. It's cut off by these canyons here... rough terrain, dense forest, abandoned silver and gold mines all over the place..." Sam stated. "Guys, check out the size of this friggin' bear." Dean said while looking at an old picture. "...And a dozen or more grizzlies in the area. It's no nature hike, that's for sure." Sam finished, making Dean look at me. "You're staying here" he said "as if, you brought me here because I'm a good hunter, I can handle a few grizzlies" I said. You guys aren't planning to go out near black water ridge, by any chance?" a ranger asked. "Oh, no, sir. We're environmental-study majors from U.C. Boulder and this is my little sister. Just working on a paper." Sam said. "Recycle, man" Dean chuckles. "Bull. You're friends with that Hailey girl, right?" "Yes. Yes, we are, ranger... Wilkinson." Dean said, looking at his name tag. "Well, I will tell you exactly what I told her. Her brother filled out a backcountry permit saying he wouldn't be back from black water until the 24th. So it's not exactly a missing person now, is it? Tell that girl to quit worrying, I'm sure her brother's just fine." "We will. Well, that Hailey girl's quite a pistol, huh?" Dean said. "That is putting it mildly." "Actually, you know what would help is if I could show her a copy of that backcountry permit. You know, so she could see her brother's return date." Dean said.
"Yeah-heh-heh" Dean celebrated as we went back to the car. "What, are you cruising for a hookup or something?" Sam asked. "What do you mean?" Dean asked "The coordinates point to black water ridge. So what are we waiting for? Let's just go find dad. I mean why even talk to this girl?" Sam asked. "I don't know, maybe we should know what we're walking into before we actually walk into it." "What?" Sam asked "Since when are you all 'shoot first, ask questions later' and since when are you so quiet Sydney?" "Since now." me and Sam said at the same time, getting in.
They made me wait in the car so they could go talk to Hailey.
We were in a bar. "So, black water ridge doesn't get a lot of traffic. Local campers mostly. But, still, this past April, two hikers went missing out there. They were never found." "Any before that?" I asked. "Yeah. In 1982, eight different people all vanished in the same year. Authorities said it was a grizzly attack. And, again, in 1959, and again, before that in 1936... Every 23 years, just like clockwork... Okay, watch this. Here's the clincher. I downloaded that guy Tommy's video to the laptop. Check this out." me and Dean watched closely. "Do it again" Dean said. "That's 3 frames. It's a fraction of a second. Whatever that thing is, it can move." Sam said, Dean hit him in the arm. "I told you guys something weird was going on." he said. "Yeah. I got one more thing. In '59, one camper survived the supposed grizzly attack, just a kid... barely crawled out of the woods alive." "Is there a name?" Dean asked.
