Chapter 1

~Joy~

I became so angry, I lift my ice cream cone and smash it across Logan's face. Hurt spreads across him and his mouth falls open. I suddenly felt tears brimming at the corners of my eyes, and feel myself walk away.

But of course-what led to this event started a month ago...

"Joy, come down stairs, your friend's here to see you," my mother yells in the living room.

I dash towards my door and slip downstairs. I open it to find my best friend, Adeline. She barges in and follows me up to my room.

I go on Netflix and put on a show. She sat on my bed and continue to chew on the gummy worms I brought out.

"Okay, what's up? It looks like you won the lottery or something," I point out.

"Joy-it's a boy emergency!" She says, full of excitement.

I roll my eyes, "Don't tell me you saw Louis wink at you in the hallway, Ade." She scoffs.

"No, well, I wouldn't think that'd be bad but-"

"Go on!"

"His mother is dating my father!" She screams in excitement.

My jaw drops open, "THE Louis Hartley?"

She nods, "They started dating a few weeks ago."

"And...your father told you this?"

"Uh....not exactly...."

"Then, how did you...?"

She smiles mischievously, "I have my ways,"

"Anyway....let's talk about something else," I suggest.

"Sure. What do you think, about the prom coming up?" She asks.

"You mean, the event everyone's already talking about-when it's in 4 months?"

She looks taken a back, "What are you talking about? I started talking about it, since like the 8th grade," I roll my eyes while she giggles.

"Well, if we are talking about it, do you have someone in mind?" I ask her.

She first looks happy, but quickly cringes at her thought. "I was actually hoping Louis would ask me, but after all that, I think that would just be weird," she says sadly, "what about you?"

"I'm not sure. I might just go solo-"

"Uh...no you aren't. If you even step one foot at prom without a date, I swear Joy," she interrupts.

"Ha! You'd probably be too busy trying to get ready for this years' couple contest at prom!" I reply back.

She opens her mouth to speak, but then shuts it quickly. We both laugh at the same time.

Adeline and I finish watching 'Once Upon A Time,' and she quickly goes home. I close the tv as I get ready for school on Monday.

I pass by people as I go through the hallways. Most people from our school are classified into groups. Not your typical, "jocks," "mean girls," and, "nerds," kind of thing, but-well, now that I think of it, yeah, our school kind of is.

I wouldn't consider myself a, "popular," girl, nor one cast in the shadows-I'm kind of in the middle. I don't like to get involved with drama, and that stuff-but I like to know the gossip, at times. Parties aren't always my thing-but since it's senior year, Adeline always drags me to them anyways.

I'm nothing special really, I don't-

I'm turning a corner when suddenly I bump into someone.

"Hey, can you please watch where you're going next time?" I ask, feeling annoyed that I dropped all of my Spanish worksheets. This would make me late for class. I start to pick them up, as they do too.

"Yeah, sorry," he replies back. I look up to meet a pair of sparkling sky blue eyes looking right at me. We finish picking the pages and he hands them back to me.

"Well, sorry again," he says as he walks away, leaving me only with a glimpse of his auburn~brown layered hair.
