Warning: mention of groping, getting kicked out, and it's very long

"Keith!" A scream comes from the younger girl, Keith looks behind to see his sister being attacked by an older man. "Get your filthy hands off my sister!" Keith lunges towards the man, the younger person cries as the grip on her wrists tighten. Keith punches him on the side  and his gut, once the man let go Keith grabs his younger sister and makes a run for it.

"Are you okay?" Keith asks as soon as they made it into a convenience store, she wipes her tears before taking a deep breath. "I'm just shaken up is all..." She looks Keith in the eye with trauma in her eyes, after a pause she speaks up. "He groped me Keith..." Keith just brings her into a hug, he places his hand on the back of her head and brings her close to his heart. It always calmed her, she was kicked out of her home when she was 12 and Keith found her crying in an ally and helped her ever since. He calls her his sister because once she opened up to him, she called him her brother and Keith was okay with that.

"Karlee, we can't stay in here all night... We should head home before it gets any later..." Keith says after a couple of minutes of letting her cry in his chest. "Okay..." She whimpers and Keith looks around to see the cashier looking at them with a sympathetic look on her face. Keith lets go of her and he walks up to the candy section and picks up a Kit Kat and walks up to the cashier and pays for it. "Keith... That was your lunch money for tomorrow..." Karlee speaks up as they leave. Keith just shakes his head and hands it to her. "You're more important." She just sadly smiles and accepts it. "Let's go..." Keith nods and makes sure to keep his sister close.

They make it to an abandoned storehouse and make their way to their corner. Keith sits down on the cardboard mat and grabs the blankets and Karlee lays beside him. Keith places the blanket over the two of them and he lays close to her. She snuggles up to him and tries to fall asleep after such trauma she experienced today. Keith sighs and tries to fall asleep as well, this event was something he was going to forget.

Next day Keith wakes up before Karlee does, "Karlee wake up. We have to go get food from Hunk." Keith shakes her lightly, she groan but nods. "Okay... Let's do that." She sits up and grab her backpack that holds her things. "When is the competition again?" She asks before standing up. "Tonight at five. We have all day to make extra money." Keith fixes his jacket. "Okay, let's go to Hunks then go downtown to the square." Keith checks that their speakers are charged and his iPod is charged as well. "Electronics are good to go." Keith smiles and Karlee fixes his hair. It was a routine of theirs, Keith would wake up before her then wakes her up five minutes after his awakening after he check that no one has stolen their things in the middle of the night and after he checks that his sister wasn't hurt in anyway through the night.

They make her way down to the local diner. "Hey guys! Your usual?" Keith nods then looks at his younger sister. She nods and they sit down in the booth. Hunk smiles and just looks at the two converse. "Just imagine Keith, if we win this, we can finally be able to pay the rent that Hunk offered us and we can find jobs, and get other clothes!" Hunk smiles at her enthusiasm, "Yeah we could do that." Keith smiles fondly at her. "Oh, about jobs, my parents are giving you two a chance." Hunk smiles, the two pair of eyes widen and they smile at each other. "You two will be waiters." Hunk places food in front of them. "Are you serious?" Hunk nods, "They said that you should start somewhere and they really started to care for you since you're always here and that they've seen that you're good friends of mine." Hunk sits beside Karlee and she gives him a big hug.

"When do we start?" Keith asks, Hunk chuckles while hugging the girl back, "You start this weekend, my mom said I'll be the one training you." Hunk watches Keith starting to eat, he notices how thin Keith was getting. He looks at Karlee to see that she was looking healthy. Hunk smiles to see that Keith really cares about this girl. "So, beside that. My mom said that its okay for you to stay at my place now." Keith stops eating and so does Karlee. "What?" Keith puts down his fork. "Yeah, my parents and I had a long talk about this. I know it's sudden but you really need to be committed to this diner. We've been needing really committed waitresses lately." Keith and Karlee nod quickly. "We will! We really need this job!" Karlee says loudly, Keith nods while he picks up his fork and begins to eat. "Well, since we got a job. We need all legal documents for you Karlee." She groans and looks out the window. "Why do I need them." Keith rolls his eyes. "You need a bank account, and you need legal documents to do that." Karlee groans and stuffs her face. "Don't you have to get yours to?" Karlee asks after finishing her food. "I already have mine, the foster system found all mine and gave me them when I was old enough to leave." Karlee sighs and slouches against the back of the booth.
