Sammy's POV
I couldn't believe what I was looking at. I didn't know what I wanted to say to Fletcher or what to do. He was standing in the doorway staring at me, waiting for me to do something.
He cleared his throat, "So ah, what do you feel like for dinner? We can order some take-out if you want, nice and easy" he said and walked towards the kitchen. Highly confused, I followed him out, still holding the box in my hand.
I watched from the edge of the kitchen as he pulled out some different restaurant menus that deliver. "Chinese?" I furrowed by brow, trying to comprehend what was happening. "What about Indian? Haven't had that in a while"
"Fletcher, what are you doing?"
"Finding something good to have for dinner, what are you doing?" he says, purposely not looking at me.
"I'm wondering what this is" I say, sitting the open box down on the bench.
"That, Sammy, is an engagement ring" he tells me as if I'm stupid.
"I know that, Fletcher. I mean, what is it doing here?" he sighed and turned, resting against the bench and looked straight ahead."I bought that four years ago, before you left. I had a plan for us, but apparently you didn't. I didn't want to return it, because you never know what's going to happen in life. I hid it in my ugly shirt so you wouldn't find it. It was working until I was stupid enough to leave it out" he huffed and picked it up. His face softened as he looked at it.
"I... I didn't know" I say softly.
"You weren't meant to. When you decided to leave I didn't want to make you stay if you didn't want to" he shrugged. "Let's just forget this happened. Dinner?" he changed the subject, closing the box and put it in his pocket, returning his focus to the menus.
"Um, sure. Indian sounds really good" I say, and we didn't speak about it again for the rest of the night.*2 Days Later*
My thoughts change between Dylan and the funeral, the ring and Fletcher, and Shane and my life that's waiting for me to return. Shane has been texting me and I finally called him last night, but the phone call didn't last very long.
"Sammy, hey, how is everything going, how are you feeling" he says as soon as he answered the phone.
"Um, yeah it's all going okay. I'm better than I was when I found him, that's for sure" I say.
We didn't say anything for a minute. I couldn't hear any other noise on his end of the phone, so I just assumed he was at home.
"So the funeral is tomorrow. The service is at 11am, then a few of us are going to the burial, then the wake is at Gracie's house at 2pm. I hope you'll be there" I tell him.
"I'll definitely be at the wake, baby. I have back to back meetings all morning though, and they've already been rescheduled twice" he says.
"That's fine, as long as you're at the wake. I'll see you then, I have to go" I say. We say our goodbyes and I hang up just as the tears begin to fall.
I wasn't crying for Dylan, I was crying for the shitty situation that my life was in. I understood why he couldn't make it to the service, and honestly I don't think I really wanted him there anyway.I slowly got out of bed and got ready. I couldn't sleep at all, so as soon as the sun hinted at rising I was out of bed.
After I showered and did my makeup, I took my dress off the hanger that I brought in with me. It was just black with lace sleeves; nothing too out there, but still nice. I only pinned back the front parts of my hair with a bow and put on some flats. Then, I went out to the main part of the loft to wait for Fletcher.Fletcher's POV
I knew as soon as I saw her walk out of the bedroom that she didn't sleep. She flashed me a smile, but it didn't stick at all.
"Morning" she mumbled and got herself a glass of water.
"Good morning, you ready to go? I was thinking we could stop for a coffee on the way to the service" I suggest.
"Yeah, that would be great, I didn't sleep well last night" she says.
We picked up everything we needed and headed out. I drove us to a cafe close by and we went in to order.
"Is Shane coming today?" I ask her as we waited for our coffees. She looked down and shook her head.
"Well, he's coming to the wake later on, but that's it" she clarifies. I just nodded, but I couldn't understand why he wouldn't want to be here for her, especially now when she needs him, the man she loves, the most.
We picked up our coffees and left, heading out of the city for the service.
OH EM GEEEEE HEEEEY GUUUYYYSSSSS, WHAT'S UP
Sooooo, my last upload was like, more than a year ago... SORRY!
This chapter might be a bit rusty, considering I wrote it just then (before I uploaded it), so just go with it. I have plans for this book, I have been inspired.
Sooo much has been happening in my life, it's been so crazy lately that I completely forgot about Lost Souls! I am so so sorry guys, I know you've all been waiting for this moment, and I hope it lives up to what you want!
I am going to try get a few chapters out over the next few days to make up for my missing status.
I don't think that there's going to be much more to the book, I'll probably finish it off soon after the BIG twist (keep an eye out!) so we can finally have some closure on Sammy and Fletcher.
Also, I've been thinking about writing a new story based off a real life situation: my grandparents life. I've been learning a lot lately about their lives together, and it honestly just seems so storybook and it's almost SCREAMING for someone to write about it! Let me know what you think, if that's something you would want to read or not.
It feels good to be back, to have this outlet to chill and escape for a bit.
