Bright boots splashed into the puddle, splashing onto the curb as the little girl hopped about childishly. The small, equally bright cat umbrella protected her from the drizzling rain that fell to the earth. A boy followed suit, wearing a large poncho instead of using an umbrella like his friend. The two children giggled as they tried to get each other's legs wet as they walked home together.
It was already late in the evening when the two children reached their homes. The drizzle was yet to stop. "Bye bye, Minghao. See you tomorrow," the girl waved. The boy nodded with a smile.
"I'll wait for you here tomorrow, (Y/n)," he promised, hugging his best friend. Little (Y/n) happily returned the hug, nearly dropping her umbrella. She kissed his cheek in a friendly farewell before running up to the front door where her mother waited for her with a cheeky smile. Minghao's heart fluttered but he shook his head before dashing into his own home, trying to ignore the cold rain.

Minghao felt hot air blowing into his ear, despite the cold wind from the rain. He yelped, clutching his ear as he glared at his best friend. (Y/n) grinned mischievously as she opened her umbrella. "Did you wait long?" she asked as she let Minghao carry the umbrella since he's taller.
Minghao shook his head. "Nope. I'll wait for you forever if I have to," he smirked. (Y/n) laughed as she wrapped her arms around his, leaning her head on his shoulder. If any outsider had seen them both, they would have thought they were lovers. That thought somewhat sent Minghao's heart fluttering and face burning.
The duo talked about everything but Minghao was more silent than usual. "Hao, what's wrong?" she stopped, arm still linked with his. Minghao turned his face away, trying to hide his blush. "Ehhhh, what's gotten my HaoHao so shy...," (Y/n) teased as she reached and gently cupped his face to face her.
"Um...," Minghao exhaled a nervous laugh. "You?" he blurted out. There was a sudden silence as the tall boy tried to avoid her gaze. (Y/n) smiled brightly, standing on her tiptoes to give him a light kiss on his lips. It took him a full minute to realise his best friend, also his crush, just gave him a kiss. On the lips. Instead the friendly usual on his forehead or cheeks.
The umbrella dropped onto the ground, long forgotten by the couple as Minghao wrapped his arms around her waist and pressed his lips against hers. The rain was too ignored by them, soaking them from head to toe but they were too in love to notice.

The day was rainy as Minghao held his cup of hot coffee. The rest of the members were busy with themselves, not noticing the misty look in his eyes as he stared at the raindrops that made way down the window pane.
Seeing the rain made him remember the heartbreak he experienced years ago. The angry tears mixed with the heartless cold liquid as both of them screamed things they didn't mean to in the middle of the empty street. The hurt look in her eyes, the bitter tone in her voice as she laid bare every of her insecurities in the relationship. He said words that he could never take back as the rain did nothing to cover them.
The only words engraved in each other's minds were, "I hate you," before she disappeared from his life. It was that rainy night that Minghao knew what actual heartbreak meant when he couldn't find her and told her he never meant any of the words he said.
"Hyung, what's up with that look?" Dino waved his hands in front of his older friend. Minghao forced a childlike smile and shook his head.
"It's nothing. Remembering some things with the rain," he took a sip of his drink sadly.
"Oh... good or bad?" Dino sat in front of Minghao, curious of what got Minghao reminiscing like that. Minghao shrugged his shoulders. Dino gave a concerned look as Minghao gave him a deep sigh.
"A secret only the rain knows," the Chinese boy patted the maknae's head before getting up to put the cup into the sink. Dino gave a perplexed look and looked out of the window to watch the rain.
The door to the practice room suddenly opened, revealing a girl carrying a backpack. "Excuse me, is my cousin, Jun, here?" she asked. Minghao felt his world stop as his eyes met the ones he had so dreamed of every rainy nights. (Y/n) stepped through the door slowly, an unreadable look in her eyes. "Hao?" her voice was soft as she approached him cautiously.
Minghao marched forwards, enveloping her into a tight hug. She hesitated but eventually hugged him back tightly, tears wetting each other's shoulders. "I'm sorry, I love you, I'm sorry," they whispered together like a mantra.
It was the night rain that brought them together and it was the wait for each other that was worth it.
