I've always known that i would be leaving for school and I thought that the day will be climactic but honestly it's sad, i'm leaving behind the only place i've known but, it's for the better, a new experience and new opportunities. My parents insisted on taking me and making me going to college an opportunity for a "FAMILY ROAD TRIP!!!" as my mother simply put it, so they rented an RV and loaded it with my siblings and got comfortable for a nearly 5 hour drive from Arizona to California.
Thanks to my brother, we ended up making a 5 hour drive into a 7 hour drive and we unfortunately got to campus too late in order for me to check in so i'm forced to spend another 6 hours in this uncomfortable death trap. I take this time to think about how my dorm is going to look like and how i'm going to decorate, or even what my roommate is like, i mean i've met her, okay well not formally, we met each other online and ended up following each other on instagram. What i've gathered from her instagram is that she's a party girl who's deeply into anime, also she's very artsy.
The next morning were awoken by the bugle sound, did i forget to mention that i'm an Army brat, which means that my family has moved around ALOT. i haven't we haven't moved since my mom had my little brother Ethan and we've been stationary in Arizona ever since. But it doesn't help that my dad brings the traditions home with him. And with that i'm up and getting ready, my parents didn't really think this "family road trip" through, having 5 people loaded up in a cramped space is not the best for anyone's sanity. My sister is hogging the oh-so tiny bathroom, my brother is.. Using the kitchen sink as his private bathroom which is enough to make anyone wanna hurl, thank god for wipes. And yes i know that it's not the most effective way to be cleaning yourself but i only have like an hour or so in this uncomfortable death trap and then i'm officially a UCLA student dorming, staying out late, drinking, partying, you know, the normal people stuff. Dad takes us to the nearest IHOP just to insure that i won't be late for registrations.
"Can i just have the pancakes" my usual for any place because i'm pretty sure no one can mess these up.
"Can't believe when we're done eating i'll be driving my little girl off to the rest of her life" dad says like he's gonna cry " yeah Mateo, remember when we were changing her diapers and--"
"Alright mom we get it im growing up, but can we not bring up changing my diapers while we're eating? Please?" my parents laugh it off. Meet the most embarrassing parents in the world Mateo and Heaven, they never pass up an opportunity to embarrass me in public especially around my friends. They met in elementary school and have stayed close since then, what a story.Breakfast this morning consisted of my family reminiscing on all of our memories together and thinking about how weird it is going to be having an empty space at the dinner table, breakfast table, car and any other space that requires a butt in a seat. Fortunately we cut the trip down memory lane short to make it to campus and set up my dorm and make last minute shopping things that i may need.
