Mid December
Jo's POV:
The soft fabric rubbed against my skin and covered any light that was visible to me. I could feel Alex's warm hands wrapped around my waist, my hands on top of his. My feet were tripping over each other, and I could feel my legs shaking. Once we came to a stop, I felt Alex take the eye mask off and right in front of me was a black SUV. Once the door opened, I could smell the aroma of the newly cleaned leather. He grabbed my hand and he guided me up the step into the backseat. I sat down and he whispered to the driver the address. I couldn't hear his muffled voice because of how quiet he was speaking, so I guess I will just have to be surprised.
Alex's POV:
Today was the day we were leaving for New York. I had put Jo in a bandanna to cover her eyes so she would be surprised. I guided her to the black SUV I had ordered to bring us to the airport and made sure to whisper the address to the driver. It would be about 40 minutes until we got to the airport, so I told Jo to take a nap. A few minutes later, I could feel her nestling her head into my shoulder. She was breathing heaving, so I decided to rub her back and make her feel better. She then fell asleep, so the only thing left to do was wait. I was so excited. She still didn't know where we were going and I didn't intend on telling her until we got there.
Jo's POV:
The airport? What were we doing here? We pulled up to the Seattle airport with the big glass windows and I was immediately anxious. Once we started walking through the airport, I kept begging Alex to tell me where we were going. He kept telling me I had to wait, when he knows I don't like surprises. Heading towards security, I saw someone waiting for us with a sign that said "Karev" and he was holding each of our suitcases. I thought to myself, I didn't pack this. What the hell did Alex plan? Was I about to find out?
Alex's POV:
When we pulled up to the airport, I was so excited. Jo had no idea, I think. She seemed very surprised and confused, which hinted to me that she didn't have an idea. My fingers reached to hers and they clasped together. Our swinging arms were synced with our legs while we were walking to security. I had planned for one of my good friends, Zach to act as a "clue." He was holding our last name up and had our bags in his hands. I walked closer, and quietly whispered "thank you." Jo had a wrinkled forehead and nose and was giving me the death stare. As we started to move on the line towards security, Jo apparently saw the sign to where we were going (New York) and asked why. She hated surprises, and I had never thought of this. Wow, I am stupid.
Jo's POV:
I have horrible anxiety. My life has been an insane roller coaster, so I don't know when to not be stressed out, or paranoid for that matter. I felt a little bit better though, once I found out we were flying to New York. I still didn't know why, but at least we were going to one of my favorite cities. We proceeded through the security line, and by the time we got up to the front, it was an hour until we were supposed to board. For once, we were actually on time, and I didn't even plan it. After we were done with security, including one full pat down for Alex, we decided to go have some food, since it was going to be a 7 hour flight. We chose this place called La Pisa Cafe. It was a small little french cafe (very romantic in fact). I got a sandwich on a baguette which would tide me over until our meal on the plane. Thankfully by the point we were done with our food, we were literally right across from our terminal because we only had 20 minutes until we started to board. For some reason, we still didn't have our tickets. I had asked Alex why, and of course he wouldn't tell me, but he did say everything was ok, so I believed him. Once we made our way over to our terminal, Alex instructed me to sit down and wait for him. Was I a dog? God, he was acting so secretive. He walked up to the receptionist at the desk and a few minutes later came back with 2 pieces of paper.
Alex's POV:
We finally had gotten through security when my stomach started twisting and turning. At first I thought it was nerves, and then I realized that it was actually hunger. I hadn't eaten at all today so it would make sense. I let Jo pick because I really wanted this trip to be all about her. We had our lunch and then headed over to our terminal. We still didn't have our tickets though. I had arranged for us to get special "anniversary tickets" and then at the last minute, the airline had offered us both first class. Of course I accepted, because how could you turn that down? So, in order to recieve the tickets, I had to get them straight from the receptionist. When I walked up, I could feel my cheeks burning. I think she noticed too, because as I got closer her smile faded a little bit. I quickly grabbed the tickets and thanked her and then slowly and calmly, started walking back to Jo. My hands were clammy, so whenever I took a step, the tickets would slip a little more. I stopped to gain control and then went back to Jo. I handed her the ticket, and at first she didn't notice but then when I pointed to the first class and anniversary trip, she figured it out. She jumped up and was actually speechless. If this was her reaction to this, how would she react to the proposal?
