Spitfire One-Shots Chapter 38- Roommates

Artemis was ready to start a new chapter in her life. She worked her butt off to get a full ride scholarship to Stanford University, her dream school. She gave up her weekends to study and kept this up for years, and it all payed off in the end. Artemis was exactly where she wanted to be.

She had goal, and plans for her future, Stanford was just the first step.

Unfortunately, her scholarship did not cover a dorm so she had to resort to renting one off-campus. She found one reasonably close by, the only downside was that she needed to find a roommate to make the rent.

And so the search began.

She put up signs around campus and waited for the phone calls to come in. The first couple of people who called were trying to be funny, but the next couple of candidates seemed serious enough. Artemis wearily agreed to meet with them in the apartment she began to move into.

The first candidate was a creepy guy who kept reminding her that his dad was in prison, that was an obvious no. Not to mention that he reminded her of her ex-boyfriend too much. The next was a girl too obsessed with making room for her stuffed animal collection. The whole day was just filled with bad candidates back to back, leaving Artemis so sick, tired and fed up that she went with the last person, some guy named Wally.

She did background checks on all of them, and he seemed the most normal out of all of them. He was from Central City, and seemed to bother her the least. It also helped that he could start moving the next day and pay upfront 3 months rent.

"I'm going to have a couple of friends come by tomorrow and help me move in." Wally told his new roommate.

"Sure, here's the key." She handed him the spare she made in advance. "I'm going to be in the library all day tomorrow."

"The semester starts next week." Wally pointed out.

"I need to get my textbooks before school starts." She replied.

"Ah." The judgemental undertone in his voice did not go unnoticed.

Wally took no time in making himself feel right at home, which was the point. However, it didn't take them long to realize how different they were from each other. And within no time, he and Artemis found themselves butting heads on multiple occasions. She complained that he was too messy and never helped out, while Wally countered saying she had a stick up her butt and was too uptight. Although in that logic, he never denied her claims.

"Can you do you f***ing dishes? You haven't even rinsed a plate since you got here."

"I've been busy." He said not even bothering to look up from his phone. Wally was just lounging around the couch, and his feet up on the coffee table. She resisted the urge to knock his feet off. She wondered who was so important that he was texting.

"Were you raised by wolves or something?" She threw her hands in the air, annoyed with him. Her patience was wearing down each day.

"Calm down Artemis, it's just a plate." He shrugged her off. It wasn't just a plate, it was a whole stack of them lying in the sink being dirty and disgusting.

"It's not just a plate, it's the fact that you make a mess and never cleaning up after yourself! You never do the dishes, take out the trash and treat the living room like another bedroom." That was just the short version.

"How?" He asked in disbelief, whilst also challenging her at the same time.

Artemis just reached over to grab a clump of his clothes sitting on the floor, proving her point wordlessly.
