"Honey, get up! We need to leave otherwise you'll miss your flight." My mother shouted.
I opened my eyes and realized today is the day I will leave my life in Amsterdam and start a new one in London. The new start I need so badly, but unfortunately it comes with a price: I need to attend an English with creative writing course at the London South Bank University otherwise my mother won't let me go. I get up and walk in to the bathroom where I look in the mirror and see my own reflection. My blue eyes look tired and my curly blond hair is everywhere. I undress myself and take a quick shower before I change in something comfortable for the journey to my new home.
"Eve, come and eat some breakfast honey."
"I'm coming mom"
I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bowl with some cereal. I started eating like I normally do, but I feel that my mother is staring at me.
"What?" I ask nonchalant.
"Nothing, I'm just looking at you while I can." A few tears run down her face.
"I'm not going to the other side of the world" I chuckled " London is only like one hour flying."
"I know, I know, but I won't see you for awhile and that just makes me sad, because you are still my little girl. Your dad would have been so proud." More tears fell from her eyes. I don't like leaving her here all alone, but after my dad died I did some things I'm not proud of and this is just something I need to do... To get closure and learn to live again.
"I will see you soon mom. Really! When I'm settled and used to living in London you should totally come over for a weekend or even week!" I have her the biggest smile but deep inside of me I try not to cry.
"Of course! I will come to see you as soon as I can and as soon as you are ready." She looks at her watch and I can tell from the way she looks at it that it is time for us to go to the airport.
"It is time, isn't it?"
She nods.
"Okay then. Let's go." I put the bowl in the sink and grab my backpack. My mom asks me one last time if I have my passport and all in the information I need to for my room and registration at the university. When I have everything I take one last look at the place I call home and leave to start my new life.
