I slid out of bed on to the cool floor of my dorm room. As soon as I stood, my alarm went off. My internal alarm clock is always, naturally just a few seconds early. As I walked to the mirror, I stepped over my clothes from the night before. I heard my phone buzzing from the pocket of my shorts. At 7:00 AM, I knew it was Quint.
I cleared my throat.
"Hello?"
"Babe, where you at?"
"My room."
I heard him sigh and shift in his bed.
"Well why is that, what time you creep out of here this morning? I told you to wake me up when you leave."
"Quint, I'm not having this conversation at 7 AM. I don't wake up with you. Period."
"Danielle, all I'm asking is you just do it one morning, one time. No strings attached I promise."
"No." I hung up the phone and proceeded to the shower.
The phone rang once more and three texts followed.
Quint and I USED to be together. We used to be in love and we used to be everything to one another. But, now...we're a Friday night freak to one another. That's it. No love, no Saturday morning quickie, nothing. I won't allow myself to.
When I got out the shower and checked my phone, Quint sent me a picture of breakfast on the patio of one of the buildings at school.
"Just come straight here."
I got dressed in khakis and an orange spaghetti strap blouse and put on my orange Michael Kors sandals. I fluffed my long black hair and grabbed my bag.
As I locked the door, my phone rang again, this time it was Sean...my boyfriend.
"Good Morning baby."
"Good morning Seany."
I hesitated as he asked me why I did not answer the phone last night.
"I wasn't feeling too well, I went on to sleep after I took you to the bus station."
Sean attended NYU, hours and miles away from UGA. We've been together three months but have known each other for two years. He waited for Quincy to fuck up, waited for us to break so he could be the one to catch me.
"Oh okay well, I'm almost back, we made a stop in Maryland but, I'll be back before tonight..."
As he continued telling me his plans, I was almost to the Science building where Quincy set up our breakfast. But, I suddenly heard a commotion. I looked around and saw Quincy stumbling back to the patio area, his shirt was torn up as if a dog got to it.
"Sean...let me call you back."
