"Hey, come over here!" My best friend, Rebecca yells from across the street.
"What is it?" I ask, coming closer.
"I... I don't really know." She says, sounding worried.
There is a bag on the curb of the road, and whatever is inside of it is moving. I flinch.
"Should we...?" I ask hesitantly. She nods and unties the bag, revealing a very skinny puppy. It was some sort of bull mix, but it seemed to be no more than a month old. It was just barely breathing.
"Oh my God! Oh...my God. Let's bring it back to my house." I stutter. We take the dog in the bag and rush it back to my house, where thankfully nobody else is."It's okay." I whisper to the puppy, holding it to check for blood.
The dog whimpers loudly, it has a bruised back.
I have a dog, so I had dog food handy. I pour some into my hand, and luckily the puppy eats it. We keep feeding him for a while, and we then give him a bath. The dog looks depressed and in pain, but we didn't know what else to do.
Suddenly, we heard banging on the door. Startled, I run to the door, and open it without thinking."Have ya seen a dog around here?" A man asked, cigarette in hand.
"N-no. We- er- I haven't."
"Eh? You haven't... I don't buy it." The man pushed past me, burning my arm with his cigarette.
"Hey! Stop it! Rebecca!" I call out.
The puppy whimpers loudly, and I knew they would find him and hurt him. So, I did all I could think of doing. I punched the man.
