Chapter 1: Walk Through Fire

Chapter 1:song-Walk through fire

"humans have no wings so we look for other ways to fly"~ Unknown

The horrendous storm had come up from the East. The lightning splintering on the peaks, creating great clashes in the air that rolled and tumbled through every cave and hollow; the dark area was filled with sudden noise and light.

Then came the wind and rain, as the wind whipped the rain and hail in about every direction.

The three riders were beginning to get soaked as some of the horses began whinnying in fright.

But the weather was the least of the groups worries. A fifteen meter humanoid monster was slowly catching up to the group on horseback.

"YOUR ORDERS CAPTAIN!" A woman shrieked, her head lowered in a crude attempt to shield her face from the sting of the hail.

"TRY AND OUT MANEUVER IT! WITH YOUR BROKEN 3D MANEUVER GEAR AND LACK OF COVER IT WOULD BE SUICIDE TO TRY AND ATTACK IT NOW!" The corporal shouted back to her, there capes rippling in the faint light like liquid jade as the Wings of Freedom crescent proudly displayed itself on the back of there capes.

The woman looked back down at the now useless equipment on her hip. The vertical maneuvering equipment was a special and critical part in humanity's fight against the titans. Certainly deadly to titans, the equipment allowed soldiers to whip around and across huge distances to score a killing strike on the napes of the monsters neck at alarming speeds.

The horses snorted with alarm as they tossed their heads. The riders stiffened, eyes flashing from side to side as they wheeled there mounts in different directions. That was until the monster grabbed ahold of one of the cadets. The one with the broken gear.

Shawn and her horse were being lifted off of the ground. Trying to escape the beasts vice like grip she began kicking and screaming.

The sickening noise of the tearing of flesh and the grinding of bones filled the air as the monster swallowed the deceased soldier.

Titans as you probably already knew, have no need to eat. With no reproductive organs or known origins these mindless beasts wander the earth, cornering the last of humanity within walls, wanting nothing more than to wipe out the human race.

"EYES FORWARD CADET WRIGHT!" The soldier's eyes were full of hatred as she turned around to face the gigantic beast.

"I'M GOING FOR IT LEVI!" she shouted, blades drawn she shot the metal hooks into the monsters shoulders. Propelling herself forward she had miscalculated, causing her downfall.

Levi rode on until a forest full of big ass trees appeared in front of him. Standing on his horse he shot his hooks into a nearby tree branch propelling himself high up into the air and onto the branch. Ambushing the beast when it stopped just underneath him, he launched himself towards the beast successfully slicing the nape of its neck, it's only weak spot.

Falling, he barely had enough time to calculate a landing when he crashed face first into the ground, blood pooling in the dirt as black dots clouded his vision before pulling him into a deep state of unconsciousness.

Opening his eyes Levi jumped to his feet when an almost unbearable pain shot up his leg, he had broken his ankle.

The sky was clear and dark, and a slight breeze stirred the air. A silvery cloud drifted over the mountains that surrounded him, its edges glowing with ruddy light cast from the harvest moon cradled between two peaks. Streams flowed down the mountains as a brooding mist crept along the valleys floor, thick enough to hide his body from view.

The trees blocked the sky from view and casted feathery shadows on the ground.

A wisp of smoke curled in the air carrying an unpleasant burnt smell.

"Shit, Titan smoke," Levi cursed and spun around as if on instinct to come face to face with yet another titan.

The beast lunged forward, Levi doged just barely, as the titan began chase. He raced through the grass as a fiery wind surged passed his face.

Deep down Levi knew he would be caught eventually but he refused to give up so easily.

As if on cue the titan finally caught him, grabbing his broken ankle the titan flung him high up into the air still hanging on to it, causing him to lose his leg entirely.

He crashed back into the ground with a sickening 'thud'.

Looking up to the sky he waited to be devoured by the everlasting darkness of death when he saw a shooting star. Even though he knew it was just a child's tale it was still a comforting thought during his final hour.

'I wish for another chance.'
