Patiently I wait for my date to arrival. I look toward the clock to see that it’s already 6:20 twenty minutes after he said he’d be here. All I can think about is how he said yes out of pity to this date. He was never coming.
“Sir? Are you waiting for someone or would you like to order?” This waiter was different from the one that asked me the same questions earlier. This one seemed kind in the eyes. I smile and say softly that I’m waiting for someone but I would like a water. The waiter gave me a look and leaned down to take to me in quiet.
“Did your date not come yet?” The male waitress whispered, giving me a sad encouraging smile. I nodded and smile sadly back. He striated and bow slightly toward me and walked away. I have to say that was a really weird experience.
I’ve been sitting in this same spot for twenty-two minutes now and I was ready to leave. People around me would look at me and the other waiters seemed to be on edge that no one has talked to me in the last minute about moving, since I don’t have a date and I’m taking up space. I want to leave but I also wanted him to come. My head turns as another employee of the restaurant comes toward me.
“Would you like to order?” I can immediately tell that the smile was fake. Me, being too busy to see a man coming towards the table, try to think up a response to this woman. I hear a chair scrap across the floor on the other side of the table. Before I could turn my head to see what was happening a familiar voice spoke.
“Hey, sorry I’m so late sweetie I got caught up at work. Ah, Claire yes, we’ll order now.” The kind waiter from before sitting across from me. I’m completely and utterly confused about the situation. I sat there staring and confused at the man across from me as he ordered food for us. The waiter left and I still sat there stunned. He rubbed the back of his head and smiled slightly.
“Uh hi. My names Namjoon. Sorry for budding in but I couldn’t sit back and watch a beautiful man sit here and wait for a date we both know won’t come.” I blink once before answering.
“My name is Jin and thanks for the company. You seem kind.” Receiving a smile from Namjoon I blush a bit.
The night went on with laughter ringing throughout the restaurant. Each man smiled so much that the their faces hurt. Food was great and so was the atmosphere. Both of the men decide that this was one of their best nights and that they should continue with these nights once a week.
