Blood Prince

Chapter one.

Everyday felt repetitive, I'd wake up, get ready and go to work. I'd help out customers, have my lunch break and then finish the last three hours of my job. I'd go to the convenience store next door, buy some Noodles or microwavable food and head home where I would binge watch Netflix.

Safe to say that my life isn't that interesting.

Why don't I hang with friends? Well, I recently moved away from home a couple of months ago to live in the big city. It was hard until I landed a job at Mwah, the manager is probably the closest thing I have to a friend since moving. Mwah is a beauty shop, I help customers find the perfect shade of foundation and other crap or I can do their makeup for a price. The pay is really good that I was able to score a middle end apartment.

While restocking shelves in the last hour of my shift I couldn't help but smile, the store next door was having a sale on their noodles so I could probably stock up on those while I can and they're che- "Ow" I yelped, I swung around to see Lyra looking at me innocently. "Did you just slap me?" I asked, while rubbing my back. "Maybe, Lauren said you can leave early since there isn't many customers today" she said while smiling innocently at me. The bitch.

Frowning, I put the box back in the store room and grabbed my things before saying a quick good bye to Lauren. It didn't take long for me too get to the convenience store next door... I mean they are next to each other. Once inside I was welcomed by the store owner Bob who gave me one of his cheery smiles that I've grown accustom too over the months.

"Ah! Serena, You're here early" Bob said. I smiled "Yeah, my manager let me get off work early." Grabbing a basket I headed straight to the noodle section and grabbed as many cups as I could fit in the basket before walking towards Bob, "Hows your wife?" I asked, placing my items on the counter. Bob smiled and started scanning the noodles, "She's been good, we're expecting our child soon. Only a matter of weeks before we welcome little Josie" He continues to talk to me about how excited he was that he was going to be a father. "Before I forget, we just got some new stock in. Theres a game that's been the 'rave' lately so I decided to order some copies in, its called 'Codex World'. I don't know much about it but ever since I advertised it, ive been having more customers come in." He explained before handing me a copy.

"I thought you'd want to try it, you don't seem like the gaming type but ive had all sorts of people come in." I looked down at the copy he gave me, it was a small box, not the usual dvd covers with disc. The box was a simple navy blue cube with the words Codex world sprawled across in silver ink. "How do you play it" I asked, the box wasn't big enough for a disc. "Glad you asked, you need a nerve gear head set, one of those virtual reality things"

I've heard of those, I never thought too much into it since ive never really played games apart from the occasional Candy crush on my phone. I was willing to try it though, it might make my uninteresting life slightly more... well interesting.

"hmm, I suppose I can give it a shot, do you have a nerve gear?" I asked, looking at the almost empty stand. I noticed there was only three boxes left and that's it, frowning I looked at Bob who was smiling. "Of course I do lass, I put one away for you in case you wanted to give it a shot, ill be back lass" He said before disappearing into the back.

The game was a little pricey but I guess not going out for the last couple of months helped me save a lot of money. Minutes later Bob came out with a medium sized box with nerve gear written in big bold letters. "Since youre a regular I'll give you the nerve gear for free" he winked at me before scanning the game and chucking my items into a bag. "That's $71.65" he said, I smiled and grabbed my purse giving him a $100. Before he could protest, I grabbed my bags and ran for the door. "Keep the change Bob!" I yelled before walking away, before quickly turning back. "Thank you for the nerve gear as well" he chuckled and waved me off.

When I arrived home I kicked my shoes off and put my shopping on the kitchen counter running for my toilet. What? A girls gotta pee after working an 8 hour shift and holding it in. I would use public toilets but they just seem super disgusting to me.

After packing my shopping away I turned my kettle on for my noodles and then grabbed the game, opening the box was a small usb device. it must go in the nerve gear. Putting the box aside I grabbed the nerve gear box and opened it, I took out the white headset and pulled out a plug. After reading the instructions, I plugged the nerve gear in and hooked it up to my laptop with the usb cord it came with, I entered my internet password to the head set and then put the game usb into the side. A red light appeared, its to tell me its installing the game. As if on cue the kettle stopped.

After a cup of noodles and three episodes of Riverdale I decided to check on the headset, the light was now green to tell me its ready to play. Apparently all I do is lay down and put the headset on where it will scan my body... Creepy I know.

Taking a deep breathe I went to my bed and plugged in the Nerve Gear, laying down in my comfy pj's I put the Nerve gear on. It was completely black so it took me awhile to find the on button with my fingers.

"Gear on" before I could register what it said the darkness turned into a bright white light. "Scanning now" it said in a robotic voice, "Please stay still" it instructed and I listened. After a solid 5 minutes it did whatever it had to before speaking again. "Launching Codex World". A swirl of bright colors came into sight, next thing I know im in a white room staring at a Red haired girl who was smiling at me. "Hello, I am Black Lily, I am a player in the game and also one of the moderators. Today I will help you make your character, choose your class and help you decide a name."

It felt all so new and intriguing that I couldn't help but smile back.




HEY GUYS! So first time writing anything, before you guys say anything. Yes, yes I did get the idea from Sword art online. But its going to be different, nobody gets trapped in the world or anything. I just got the nerve gear and virtual reality idea off of it. I hope you enjoyed it the chapter, my writing is probably awkward at the moment but give me time to get better. Remember ! first time writing. Doing the conversations with others is kinda hard for me so again, sorry if it seems awkward. Will be editing later on.
