~Authors note~
This is my very first book, to be honest and didn't know what I was thinking when I created this, it just sort of popped in my head! Anyway here goes nothing :D

My first day at Hogwarts was drawing nearer and I could hardly contain my excitement, I was finally leaving this dump of an orphanage.

I had already packed my suitcase with all the necessities I was going to need apart from my wand Which was on the windowsill basking in the sunlight.

My black cat Salem was curled up at the end of my bed purring every so often. Taking a marker pen of the desk I leaned over and drew a cross on the calendar hanging of the grubby wall.

Two more days until Hogwarts I thought.

Smiling I blew out the candle on the small bedside table, clambered into bed and drifted off to sleep.

The first light of dawn crept slowly into my small bedroom casting shadows on the dated wallpaper. Groaning I scrunched up my eyes and pulled up the covers so they hid my face.

"Up everybody, come on uptime" came the shrill voice of Mrs Beckett slowly drifting up the stairs.

Sighing I muttered under my breath and slid out of bed, my eyes dreary and blurry due to the light. Walking over to the corner of the room I picked up my mint green hoodie and pulled it over my head. Rummaging around I managed to find some leggings and underwear.

Picking up the marker I crossed off the 31st of August.

Grinning I shoved Salem of my bed and Began to tidy it up a bit, to my annoyance he hissed at me angrily.

"Salem, shut it or I'll throw you out the window."

This seem to have worked because he didn't make a sound after that. Scooping him up in my arms I  rushed downstairs and buried my face in his soft black fur.

"Sorry I snapped Salem, I love you,honest.
And I meant it he was only comfort.

The first thing I saw was Mrs Beckett standing in the kitchen slapping beans on plates and slopping porridge into bowls.

"Bella" she hissed "what did I say about that cat, and wash your hands you silly girl"

Rolling my eyes I opened the kitchen window and placed Salem on the bin lid.

Salem stared at me with his golden eyes and didn't blink once, than without warning he jumped of the bin lid and padded away not turning around once.

Sighing, I closed the window an whished I could be as free as him.

Turning around I turned on the tap, the cold water was nice against my hands which were red and aching due to the writing for my English homework.

Turning it off I washed my hands with a grubby towel and sat at the long, worn out oak table.

Mrs Beckett shook her head slowly and muttered under her breath.

"Thank goodness your going off to that school, I've done everything I can to hide your abilities from the other children."

I glared at her through narrowed eyes and swirled my porridge around the chipped bowl with a spoon not taking my eyes of her but I had to because the other children had arrived with their non-stop chittering.

I rolled my eyes as Alesha sat down beside me. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. Before I could do anything she whipped her hair out of her face and gave me a look of suspicion.

"Mrs Beckett says your going to a boarding school down in Essex tomorrow, so why an Earth do have a cat are they allowing you to have a pet inside the building or are you gonna try and smuggle him in somehow?"she asked far to quickly for my liking.

I had just opened my mouth to say something to her but it was not my voice that came out but Mrs Beckett's.

"Alesha don't ask silly questions when you know your going to get an obvious answer" she said sternly with one eyebrow raised.

I span around on my chair, my mouth opened wide open...had she really just saved my lousy mind from thinking of a stupid and unrealistic answer!?

Mrs Beckett had noticed my face and smiled a small smile, winking she took a sip of her own tea and began to eat her own bowl of porridge.
